Friendly, with good English, and a mixture of foreign and Japanese guests. Breakfast is a bargain. A good 15 min walk to the station but really good bus links (they provide you with a map and you can even buy day tickets from reception, which I would recommend). The ryokan itself is just lovely - very tranquil and a good Japanese experience. While I was there they did an evening event with a free stew type meal that provided an opportunity to meet other guests, if you wanted to. Only LAN connections in the rooms but wifi on the ground floor.
