Great atmosphere, great staff and most importantly, great food! On the 2nd floor of the building you could easily miss this place when walking past but don't! It's only a minute from the shrine entrance and was very close to our hotel which meant it was a good choice after a busy day sightseeing. Had the 'standard' fried rice and it had the most delicious flavour of any rice I've ever tasted, fantastic! Also had pork with kimchi, chicken and a lovely 'Japanese mix' okonomiyaki type dish, all were very good and service was prompt and friendly throughout, highly recommended, full marks!

Thank you for nice advices about foods. They are so useful to our guests in the future. Though you guests give us good reviews on our foods, we want to improve more - more delicious, more speedy, more options. We beg your expectation!

My wife had a salad (very good dressing) a beef plate and a macha tea flavored tiramisu and I had a chicken dish (delicious - the one with cheese) and their signature pancake. I like it a lot even though many ingredients and tastes are « mixed » together. Our neighbors had the fried noodles and they looked delicious. Very friendly welcome and service by young staff. Nice atmosphere and decoration. Highly recommended!

Like many others we stumbled on this restaurant. We just wanted a drink, but after seeing the great atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food be prepared right in front of us at the bar (within a minute of being there) we knew we had to stay and try the food.

Everything about this place is great the staff are friendly and attentive; the menu is excellent; the food is amazing. This to date has been our best dining experience not only in Kyoto but in Japan.

I highly recommend this restaurant.

Tip: Take your time to enjoy the food order as you go - drink, eat, talk, repeat.

Our original plan was having dinner at another restaurant in the same building but it fully booked!. We decide to enter to this restaurant since we were tired and don't want to walk anymore. The first step we enter to this small place, we know that we make the right decision. Ambiance wise is warm and simple. Staffs present welcome attitude and yes! They speak English!!.. Variety of food and drink menu are sufficient enough for our dinner. We randomly pick them and only hope for the best. Dish is served one by one. Their food release us from the tireness. We finish all the dish without taking any photo, blame to their great taste!! ☺..... Staffs have service mind and always smile when deliver the service. We were talking how come this restaurant never present in any blog or guide book in Thailand. Hope this review can guide other fellows and try something out of the crowd.

Must try: Wagyu steak, Fried rice, Teppanyaki, Yakisoba, Fried chicken, Macha Tiramisu

Tip: Walk to the shrine at the end of Gion area and turn right. This place located on level 3 of the building.

We found this place via trip advisor and it absolutely lived up to the high reviews it has received. Cosy and comfortable surroundings, try to get a table near the hot plate. Great Gion-Yaki which was prepared and presented beautifully in front of us and came with great conversation from the owners who have only set up the restaurant 4 months ago...though you would never have thought it. The Gion-Yaki which is a Kyoto variation on the okonomiyaki is something we didn’t know about and hadn’t seen in many places, it was very tasty and crunchy and creamy at the same time. Prices were reasonable and there was a good selection for those who are adventurous like myself and those who want something more western and simple in flavour like my wife.

Highly recommend and would happily go back!

Thank you for coming and nice to meet you two! We're happy you liked our surroundings enjoyed conversation and our dishes. You praised Gion-yaki in many aspects and some of them were new discovery even for me who make it every day. If you have another chance coming to Kyoto, we will definitely welcome you!
