I absolutely love staying at Guest House Bon. Taniguchi-san, the owner, is such a warm, friendly, and incredibly helpful host, with decent English skills. He will sit down with you and a map and explain in detail how to get to restaurants, sites, etc. He will drive you to the subway station when you're leaving. The Guest House itself is beautifully decorated, and has a very friendly atmosphere.

Some say that it is a bit far from the city center, but Kita-ku is a nice part of town, and you can easily walk to amazing Daitokuji Temple and Imamiya Shrine. And if you take advantage of Guest House Bon's bike rentals, you can easily bike all over the city. Funaoka onsen is also nearby.

I can't recommend this place enough! Every time I come back to Kyoto (3 times now), I always stay there.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are best.

Clean and comfy, with a host that is genuinely helpful. Guesthouse Bon is a great authentic Japanese homestay like experience. Easy to access frequent bus service to central Kyoto, positioned in a real neighborhood with nice restaurants. Recommended

Guesthouse Bon was such a lovely traditional home to stay for the 5 nights we were in Kyoto.
The owner, was very welcoming and gave nice a complete run down of everything in the area, complete with maps and detailed ways to get there. He always was happy to put himself out and take time to give us advice. Loves a good chat!
The sushi place down the road, that he will suggest visiting is a must!
Will definitely be staying here again next we visit Kyoto.

I really love Guesthouse Bon. Mr/ Mrs Taniguchi are really helpful and recommended a lot of good restaurant around the guesthouse. Staying here is like staying in you own house. Transportation is easy to access especially via bus. Taking bus in Kyoto is convenient and easy. It might far from Kyoto Station which approximately taking 30-40mins to go back to the guesthouse via bus. So, I would suggest you to schedule your time if traveling out from Kyoto for a day trip.
The room is big enough for 2 peoples which is more than enough for a solo traveler. Taniguchi-San even gotten my bed ready when I arrived and it' really cozy.
Highly recommend!

My family and I stayed at the guesthouse for 4 nights. It is located in a residential area at suburb of the city, quiet a distant walk from the nearest subway, Kitoaji Station. There is no road sign, so follow closely to the map given on the website. It will take about 1/2 hour to travel by bus from Kyoto Station and walk about 5 mins from the bus stop at the main road to the guesthouse. However, going to all the tourist attractions from the guesthouse by bus is very convenient. There are restaurants, supermarkets and convenient stores nearby.

We found the guesthouse quiet complacent and comfortable. It like staying at home
with a small shared kitchen where you can cook and make your coffee and tea and a a small common room where you can sit down relax and meet up with the other guests.

We stayed in two rooms with a coffee table, which is big enough to have the mattresses laid, put your luggage.

The owner, taniguchi san, stays with his family next door. You just need to ring the door bell whenever you have any query or need help. Just tell him where you want to go and he will give advice on the most convenient ways and other suggestions.

If you want to experience Japanese way of living, try staying here. We find our stay a pleasant and a memorable one !!! The place is warm and cozy and it is a different experience compared to staying in a hotel.

Room Tip: The ones that face the road are nosier. Prebably, take the rooms upstairs.
