Good location is the most important criteria. The owner is very nice and helpful. She switched on the warmer before I returned. The bathroom is quite ok but only one is not enough in peak hours. The washing machine is easy to use and the rate is only 200yen per time. Awesome! The room is on average condition. After all, I m not paying the 5 stars prices.

This is the first ever Ryokan I;ve stayed in and it was wonderful!

It was all very Japanese down to the Tatami floors and the small hall ways and removing your shoes at the entrance!

Though we arrived quite late (around 1030pm), the owner was very nice and polite and got up to show the foreigners to their room.

Everything was very clean.

Free flowing coffee is available... affordable beer (for Japan) was also available.

Several small shops are all within walking distance for excellent Japanese food.

Only draw back was that the heater was only displaying Japanese characters and thus we had some difficulty getting it to work properly.

This traditional ryokan is handy to Sannomiya station (but far enough from the train noise) in a pleasant neighbourhood. You’ll get a friendly welcome and a tatami mat room.

Trouble is, this place is getting a bit run down so was the least pleasant of all the places we stayed in more than two weeks in Japan. Rooms aren’t clean, with hairs on the floor and cobwebs on the walls. The toilet wasn’t very well cleaned, and the odour crystals (perhaps used as a consequence) were strong smelling and permeated into the corridor. Bathroom facilities are adequate but rather dated, and the kitchen is essentially a cupboard with a refrigerator and hot water dispenser in.

There will be better places than this in Kobe, and the friendly welcome doesn’t quite make up for the tired facilities.

Great little ryokan. It's not sparkling new but it's clean, close(ish) to the station, and has everything you need for a few days. We really enjoyed our stay here. Quaint. And it comes with a TV so we were able to watch the world cup. Floor boards creak a little when people walk past but thats a small thing. Good for people on a budget as we only paid 7,000 yen for two of us.

Chikako was really nice. Didn't speak a whole lot of English, but enough for us to be able to make a reservation on the phone.

This place is easy to find, just follow the JR train tracks from Sanomiya station and turn left immediately after the Lawsons store.

Located in a quiet area yet only minutes away from where the main action is in Kobe.

The owner, Chikako-san speaks decent english and although the ryokan is a little run down, it has all the amenities one will need for a comfortable couple of days in Kobe. :)

recommended.
