Astoria is a historic property, a luxurious hotel in a fantastic location close to St Isaacs. The staff are effusively helpful and friendly, manners are impeccable and there is a hushed reverence through the Hotel. Our Suite, food and service was excellent, as expected for this class of hotel, but there were several niggles.
Firstly the curtains were far too thin for the white nights, this together the our suite being positioned with a streetlight directly outside our window meant it was light enough to read a book for at least 20 hours each day. When I raised this with staff, they smiled and acknowledged it was the case. Secondly, turn down was sporadic, didn't come at the times requested and one day didnt come at all. And finally don't bother with the swimming pool. Its in a different, connected hotel, the directions were unhelpful and the pool when finally found, is awful. That said, as a luxury hotel experience in a great location, it's hard to beat the Astoria.
