A visit to the Hermitage is definitely not to be missed. You can wander around for hours in the chique rooms of the enormous building and admire all the beautiful artifacts. We visited in February, which was a good choice, as it was relatively quiet in St Petersburg - not as many tourists as in summer. So, we could enjoy the Hermitage in peace and quiet, plus, we even had several rooms just for ourselves... Also, don't just watch the paintings, take the time to discover the amazing classical statues on the ground floor! Not a lot of tourists make the effort to do so, but we found it to be among the highlights of the Hermitage.

A must see. The rooms are beautiful and it offers a huge range of artwork to view. Set aside at least half a day if you just want to wander through and a full day if you want to look at all the art work. Coats must be put in the cloak room so this takes a while if the queues are long. The map we were given wasn’t very helpful and it is a bit of a maze to negotiate. There are ticket machines just inside the gates which may cut down on queuing time inside but these weren’t working on our trip. A full price ticket allows access to the entire complex and a couple of the other museums in palace square. The museum is open late- until 9pm on a Wednesday.

1.) Every first Thursday of the month the ticket will be foc. (Also apply for student with international student card.)
2.) You are not allowed to bring water inside, so put them in your bag and left in the gaderov or locker.
3.) Audio guide costs 350p for Russian, and 500p for other languages.
4.) It’s stated that photo and video are strictly prohibited (but you still can see people taking photos and video inside...)
5.) Its a big palace and gallery with alot of hall filled with huge collection of arts and stunning interior, so make sure you spend your time, strength and vigour wisely.
P/s: reach earlier to avoid long queue and go toilet before you enter the hall~

The museum is huge and you shoul decide in advance what to see as you can not see it all.
The map you get inside is not easy to read and you can very easely get lost and just do not know in what direction to go.
There are two queues to enter the museum and one can be much longer than the other one. Just join the shorter one.
We went on the first Thursday in a month and it is free on that day.
The prehistory section is really poor.
