Definitely not a tourist destination but Yuzhno is a great place. The Sapporo Hotel was picked from a shortlist provided by the travel agent. Rooms were spacious, clean and warm, winter was just kicking in. Breakfast was varied in selection and of good quality. Staff were always pleasant and helpful. Very good location in the centre of town and close to the railway station. It was a very good stay and I would recommend the Sapporo anytime.

Very good hotel. Big rooms, free wi-fi, free breakfast. Hotel placed near city center and rail-road station. Rooms are contain all what you need for living and included teapot, shell, tea-service and cold store. Minibar in room are not present, but you can call to hotel restaurant and order all you need.

I have stayed in this hotel off and on for the last 10 years and very little has changed in that time apart from Free WIFI in rooms which is ok.
Rooms are clean but I do not think many rooms have had a new carpet in 10 years.

Good for being close to railway station and also many bars and restaurants are close at hand.

Breakfast is very basic,
Bar suppers are fine, one very unusual thing is that this supper comes with real potato French Fries, non of the frozen variety which makes a pleasant chnage.
Ask for a room at the back as it is quieter.

Room tip: Ask for a quiet room at the back of the hotel

Beds are comfortable. Rooms can be cold in winter and too hot in summer. Heating / cooling system can be noisy. New Wi-Fi is big improvement but still slow. Everything is 'antiquated' but not so much that it causes too much problems. e.g. TV is very bulky old style CRT and screen is curved and relatively small, especially if you are trying to watch from your bed - made worse as rooms are overly large. Sofa's and tables are practically useless (small, uncomfortable) . Free bathroom toiletries are small one-use sachets and extremely thin bar of soap - but this is not unusual in Russia.

Food-wise I have only ever have the breakfast - which is a buffet style and does not have great variety. I actually think it is ok and generally enjoy my breakfast there but it is repetitive. They only serve one cereal. I once asked if I could have an omelette, and waitress laughed and said 'This is Russia'.
Indeed! :)

The best thing to say is that its location is excellent (as most other reviewers have mentioned). Reception staff try their best to be helpful but language barrier can be an issue - absolutely not their fault - I always wonder if any similar hotel staff in UK would ever learn another language? (not a chance)

Lastly - The form question below asks me if it has a fitness centre. I put 'NO'. This is because the room they call the gym cannot be described as a fitness centre. The only aerobic machines are two very old running machines (same ones for 7 years - no idea how long they were there before I started staying there) with hard tracks that overly impact the knees. There are 3 weights machines - one leg push (quads/calfs?), one tricep, one Lat Pull down. One set of loose dumbells with fixed weight. There is actually a decent free bar frame for bench press / squats / shoulder press but they do not have any kind of bench that you can use with it! That is all there is in the gym.

Room tip: If its summer, ask for room at back of hotel to avoid noise - there is a main road outside the front and you will need the windows open.

Stayed here 23-27 Sep. First nite in Yuzhno there were no free rooms and I've stayed in nearby Evraziya (Eurasia) hotel. After Eurasia coming to Sapporo was like travelling in space. The contrast is huge.
Sapporo offers quite big comfy rooms with double bed, bathroom with real bathtub. Fan is available. The liquid soap holder in bath was empty, so this is a little minus there.
The bathroom is against the bed which is quite convenient compare to standard rooms in other hotels.
TV is old fashioned (not flat) but I never watch TV anyway.
Complimentary water bottle. Little kitchen table with sink, microwave (!) and a freezer.
Main advantage is silence regardless of location of hotel on one of major streets.
Didnt have a chance to try breakfast yet.
Free and fast wi-fi in each room - personal router with own switch is included!
