This hotel is used mostly by large tour groups. Had we known, we would have selected another option. So many guests that were rude that it detracted from the positives.

We arrived at 6:00am (luxury bus from Cusco to Puno) and didn't expect our room to be ready, but wanted to eat breakfast. We tried to get them to let it be included as we wouldn't be able to eat breakfast our last morning, but there was no flexibility from the staff. Wouldn't have been an issue if the breakfast was really good, but it was pretty average as compared to other hotel breakfasts in Peru.

They did get us into our room around 10:00am and we really appreciated being able to take a shower and clean up after an all night ride to Puno.

Staff was very inconsistent with ability to speak/understand English. A lot of people were taking oxygen in the lobby. Daily you can get 5 minutes free for altitude sickness. It's best to have a Pulse Oximeter, Blood Oxygen Monitor with you so you can monitor your blood oxygen levels. And, if possible, take the oxygen in your hotel room ... there is a chance that they'll get busy and you'll get more than 5 minutes of oxygen. Also, we took electrolyte tablets with us that we added to our water. Also making coca tea in your water bottle the night before works well.

We were nearing the end of our trip and so gave them some laundry (in about 7:00am that they said would be delivered later in the afternoon). It wasn't delivered until the next morning, so beware if you absolutely need it the same day.

Lobby had a nice fire going -- very welcoming. Good location. Clean rooms, but they only give you some bottled water when you arrive. They should provide bottled water every day that you stay there. You'll need it for brushing your teeth and keeping hydrated.

Wifi was off and on. TV was difficult to operate. Bed was the hardest one we experienced in Peru. Pillows were good, though.

The worst thing was a sulfur smell from the bathroom faucets. It was really strong at times. Construction on the floor during the day, so couldn't take a nap. Too many loud/rude tourists.

Room Tip: Presidental Suite gives enough room to spread out with luggage. Windows open for ventilation.

We stayed here as part of Gate 1 Tours. The hotel is one block away from the main square with many places to eat. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was very tasty. Wifi could have been better but we found this to be a problem at all hotels in Peru. Since this is probably the highest elevation we were at in Peru the front desk has oxygen if needed with the first five minutes free.

This hotel is just off of the square by 1/2 block. We stayed here part of a Gate1 Tour. There is a four-block long shopping avenue just off of the plaza. At the end of the shopping avenue, to the right is another plaza. We found the hotel to be charming and delightful. We upgraded to the spa room, Room 419, HUGE! It had a king size bed, separate living room and separate gathering room, with a big jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. Very spacious and so many built-ins, unlike other Peru hotel's sparce decor. The plaza felt safe as the police station was located there.

We found through our tour one of the most interesting excursions we have ever experienced...the Uros people who reside on the Floating Islands. They have lived on these islands since the 1400's. The indigenous people encourage pictures and take you throughout their hut homes. Very-very interesting look at a time stood still.

PUNO is high elevation, approx 12,500 ft. Almost all of us in our group felt the altitude headache. The hotel offers free 5 min of oxygen to counter this, and addl oxygen minutes for $1sole per min. Also with the elevation comes colder weather. Check the weather websites to foresee what to wear. Our tour guide suggested drinking water to help and Gatorade to replenish electrolytes. The downside to this is Gatorade is very high in sugar. We found big bottles of "Electrolite" at pharmacies for only $3.5 soles ( a little over a dollar) and this is sugar free. The desk will give you a map to two very close pharmacies.

The in-room TV can be problematic. Two remotes are required. The TV remote only turns the TV on and off, don't hit other buttons. The cable box remote works the volume and channels. Leave this ON at all times and turn the TV off only with the TV remote. The room had a safe, refrigerator, hairdryer, and generous shampoos, etc.

Something to remember about Peru, ALL HOTELS have signs stating not to put toilet paper in the toilet bowl...they flush sewage directly to the sea and rivers and don't want toilet paper going out. Yuk!!!!! They provide a small bin next to the toilet for paper...Yuk again.

We really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, but our friends just thought it was so-so. This was the first breakfast with "scrambled eggs done just right". Our other hotels had the eggs very "soupy". Yuk. Coca tea is served for altitude sickness 24/7 free. But what worked for us is an anti-altitude sickness drink that we bought from the "Moysa Restaurant" around the corner. See TripAdvisor reviews for details. It was only $9soles ($3USD) and had tea, honey, cinnamon, and extra infusions of coca. It worked for all four of us! But temporarily of course.

You must use bottled water for drinking and teeth brushing. Careful to not get any water in your mouth when showering. Wifi was spotty, then good, then spotty again. Ugggg, Good luck. There is a wood burning stove in the lobby for warmth. All in all, a most enjoyable hotel stay!

Room Tip: Get the anti-altitude sickness drink that we bought from the "Moysa Restaurant" around the...

The Royal Inn Hotel is centrally located in Puno, Peru. The best bars and restaurants are within an easy walk. The rooms were pleasant and quiet at night. The bathroom was very nice with lovely tile and woodwork throughout. The restaurant offers a nice atmosphere for breakfast and I'm sure it was equally nice for dinner.

We joined Gate1 Travel tour and stayed in this hotel on September for two nights in Room 212. The hotel décor was old style which we didn't care for it. The room was clean and that's was the main thing. There was some kind of festival celebrating going on during the weekend that we stayed there so at night it was very noisy. The hotel location is good, it is closed to square, the shopping street and restaurants. We were happy for our stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 212 which was facing the street, it was noisy at times.
