30 minute walk into town passing Diabat of Jimi Hendrix fame, Tangaro has a laid back vibe which is always just what the doctor ordered on holiday imho... Staff are helpful and the pool is great.
You can dip your toe into the Medina without staying in it.

Tangaro Auberge is a quite nice place to spend a night. Rooms are clean and big enough. The place is overall pleasant to see.
We had a few problems (- the toilet did not always work, - breakfast was under the sun, -
- choice of food for breakfast was really limited compared to other more modest places we had stayed in in Morocco, - precarious WiFi, - there were connection problems that made it impossible to pay by a credit card and we had to waste 30' to go to Essaouira to withdraw money and back) and probably, considering the fact that it is a few kilometres away from Essaouira, next time we would pick a different place. It was pretty, but probably not worth the Western price and the distance from the Medina.

We loved the decor and our suite was really spacious and fairly private. The hotel is 4km from the Medina, we tended to walk in and get a cab back. It is 30dm, but if you don't fix the price before you start the journey you can be charged more

The interior is a hippy Moroccan style and can look quite distressed, but that's part of the charm. The service we received from the manager Sadio and his team was excellent and we would def go back

I have given it 4/5. Things to improve

- lunch and dinner menu the same with no option changes. We stayed for 8 days, and it got boring. We went out most nights, but would have stayed if the food had been more diverse as there was a great dining room and terrace by the pool

- breakfast options not clearly explained. They could do with a small menu. It wasn't till day 4 we found out we could have eggs and pancakes

- more towels in rooms, bed linen and pillow upgrade.

Very nice hotel. A bit out of town and away from the beach but very nice and quiet. The staff is very helpful and the food was very good. Unfortunately the WIFI did not work during our stay but that just 'forced' us to enjoy the peace and quiet even more.
We were upgraded to suites for free and the rooms are awesome.
