Review of Mauritius Aquarium

Mauritius Aquarium
Reviewed 2 weeks ago via mobile

This aquatium is not going to blow your mind, however our little boy really enjoyed it. It's pretty dated and small, but a good way to see local maurituan aquatic creatures. The massive moray eels were a great source of amusement for our 3 year old. Its small, quaint but good for a rainy day!

Situated just on the outskirts of Point Aux Piment. We visited the Aquarium during March 2018.It was a very hot day. Plenty of parking, buildings and displays a little dated and need in some TLC. Five stars to the member of staff who talked us through the feeding of the inhabitants of the large tank.Very good and informative.Sorry we didn`t catch his name!Would not make a special journey but if you are passing, pop in for half an hour.Small snack bar serving cold drinks and ice creams.

We enjoyed our visit to the aquarium (with fish feeding). It is not very big, but nicely shows the marine life of Mauritius and is well worth the visit if you are not going snorkling or diving. Will especially recommend visiting with younger kids; my 2.5 year old son loved seeing the fish etc.

This is a small aquarium just outside the village of Pointe Aux Piments Tel: 261 4561. It has a number of small tanks showing tropical fish and coral from the local reefs. Whilst not big, it provides information about the species and has staff who are enthusiastic to impart information to all its visitors.

We met “Richard” who is an ex Biology and Science Teacher for Secondary schools, who has now retired and is the centres “Biologist”. A wealth of knowledge and has a willingness to explain questions with interest and detail at all levels. Passionate about his subject, Richard enjoys visitor interaction, and is an asset to the centre.

Feeding time is at 1100 and 1500, and time soon passes by whilst watching the turtles, small sharks, moray eels and other fish within the large tank during this period. Children particularly would enjoy watching the different species look for and then feed upon the tuna and other food given.

There is a small shop and outside cafe with drinks, ice-cream and snacks at good prices. Entrance fee for Adult (300 Mrup = £6.97 approx). Recommended for visit.
