My friends and I stayed at Le Meridien in March 2011. It was the most amazing experience as we were treated like royalty from the second we walked in until the morning we booked out.
The room was great and always clean.
I cannot fault the service anywhere, from the pool bar, restuarants to the reception.
We made so many friends with people working at the hotel, and remain in touch with some of them.

My husband and I arrived at Le Meridien on 30 January 2011. It was late in the evening and we were thrilled to be told we were being upgraded to the Nirvana section. By the time we got to our room it was 10 o clock at night so we decided to shower, grab a drink from the mini-bar and order room service. The mini bar was empty. You had to order what you wanted stocked in it and that would only be able to be done the next day. There was also no information pack in our room and no room service menu. When we enquired about this we were told we would have to wait for house keeping to bring us one the next day. On New Years eve our restaurant was flooded with rain and they closed the kitchen so we had to eat at the buffet. The service was non existent and we had already finished starters by the time we managed to order a drink. The service at all the restaurants and bars other than La Faya and the bar in the Nirvana section was non existent. Over all we were incredibly disappointed as it was exceptionally expensive and definitely not worth the price we paid. We wouldn't recommend it and will not be returning. Last year we stayed at Shandrani for the same price and it was far far superior.

We had 5 nights here after 3wks in Africa, and it was a great way to unwind....well kinda, 5 days wasn't enough as we wanted to see as much as we could. We arrived late and tired in the evening and had 20mins to eat dinner before the buffet closed but were quickly checked in and our bags taken to our upgraded room in the Nirvana section, while we had some dinner. A free cocktail each evening as the sun was setting (too bad for the storm clouds each day) always lead to another before we headed off for dinner. We generally ate at the buffet (which was nice), but had dinner one night at La Faya, very nice indeed, but some things cost extra as we only had half board. Breakfast at La Faya was lovely too, if not a little slow on service, and when you book an 8am breakfast the day before you don't expect it to arrive on your table at 8:40 especially when most guest go out for the day and pick up times are generally 9am. Our room was lovely and quite and we had our own little courtyard too, and I loved our little towel animals each day.
Oh laundry prices seemed very expensive, but then we had just come from Africa.

The only other bad thing was the price of drinks, but thats the country not the hotels fault.

We happened to choose Le Meridien after a lot of research and reviews online and we were not disappointed at all with the services at the hotel. Mauritius proved to be a perfect honeymoon destination and Meridien being Icing on the cake.
The hotel is located some 45 minutes from the airport via taxi and a pleasant surprise waits for you right from the time you enter this hotel. All rooms are sea facing and the sea is merely 50 m from your balcony giving you a wonderful view. The hotel served good Indian Buffet and we were impressed. Breakfast was plush too.
The hotel has a diving center of its own and has all water sports facilities in house itself. Most of them being paid. We tried almost everything and found their services okay.
We tried some of the spa services at the hotel as well and found that to be satisfactory. The hotel has 2 bars 1 open bar and other being papaya bar and they organize music and dance with cultural taste every evening.
Overall, It was worth staying in Meridien and i look forward to staying here again if i visit Mauritius in future.

We are just back from Le Méridien. We slept there 8 nights. If I should highlight 3 best things in Mauritius, i'd say : the beauty of the island, the smile of the people and the water activities.

Concerning Le Méridien, here are my pro and cons of this hotel :

Pro :
1. long beach, big rooms well equiped, clean, good location.
2. Nirvana area is a haven, very quite. When you go to other areas of the hotel, such as the main breakfast room or the pool, it is a totally diferent atmosphere, much more noisy, full of families. It is good that have the option to alternate between the 2 "worlds" !
3. Free water activities. It is one of the main advantage of the hotel I should say. Free water skiing was a great experience. Wind surfing initiation. The hotel is well equiped. The staff is nice. The beach is 800 meter long. Other activities are payable : diving, swim with dolfin (one the most exciting experience of my life ! it was magic to swim with dozen of dolfins on the Xmas day. You can do it by group, or, as we did, we have rent a private boat (400 euros. Departure at 7am from Le méridien beach, dolfin swim in a bay which is situated at 1 hour by boat, then snorkeling on the corals barrier, lunch and then you go back around 2pm). Jean Paul, is the manager of all the water activities and has an office and staff in Le meridien. Great experience.

Cons :
- no wifi in room. Low internet, but it seems to be relative to the infrastructure of the island (finally it was a good point, i was not connected every day !)
- the menu of the restaurant was a disappointment. The breakfast was very OK. With the possibility to order also a la carte and to enjoy the buffet. We had a breakfast formula, without lunch or dinner. So we had to pay expensive price to have lunch at the hotel for a poor menu. And the diner was totally out of price (2000 roupies, 50 euros). It was the price for a double buffet diner : french and indian foods. Too much. Compared to cheap restaurant around the hotel and grand baie (15mn by car, many restaurant and beaches on the way).
- 380 roupies for cocktails. Around 10 euros.. You have to pay half price downtown.

To conclude, it is a good hotel, a bit boring for young couples. But Mauritius is not Ibiza !! It is a place, to my point of view, to relax and enjoy water and beach activities.

Enjoy lucky you !!!!
