I stayed in Batik Boutique with a group of 5 girls in March 2011, and was incredibly impressed by this tiny hotel:

- The design is very international-chic
- The rooms are very comfortable and an excellent value for the money
- And best of all, the staff is warm, friendly, and excellent from Raj, our driver from the airport and around town, to Jo, the manager who handled our booking and stay, to the bartender, to everyone else at the hotel. Everyone acted like THEY were the owner (so rare!), and did their absolute best to ensure a wonderful stay. An example: on our last day in Borneo we were coming back from another hotel but needed to keep our luggage somewhere while we went to lunch and then to the airport. Despite the fact that we had stayed there a few days earlier, Jo went out of her way to take care of us.

All in all, a wonderful time- thanks to the team there!

Nowadays many hotels call themselves boutique hotel (there is another one in Kuching that has 50 rooms...) but they do not live up to the expectations one has from a boutique hotel.
For me a boutique hotel stands for:
- small (not more than 20 rooms)
- stylish / modern
- personal service
The Batik Boutique hotel very much lived up to my expectations!
The staff are the most helpfull I have encountered in Malaysia. I am sure that they have the instuction to never say 'no' or 'we can't', because anything we asked they did for us. You mention the name of a restaurant and before you know it they called, reserved and personally deliver you at the restaurant. Same for excursions; mention what you want and they will find out the best options for you.
We came back from a hike in the nearby national park: "shall we heat up the (outdoor!) jacuzzi, so you can watch football from the jacuzzi while having a beer?". They did and how relaxed that was!
We wanted to make a reservation for the Frangipani restaurant in KL for the next saturday (which is apparently can be quite a challenge) and the owner called them and made the reservation.
The hotel itself only has 12 rooms (or 16?). Different, but all in the same style. The Batik theme is applied everywhere (also on the front of the hotel) and it appears in every detail. The egg-shaped baths are beautifull and comfortable and you can watch television from it. The interior designer has done a terriffic job!
This has by far been the most memorable place we have stayed in Malaysia!

Room Tip: Make sure you take a room with a bath

My family & I stayed there on 1-4 April 2011. There was 5 of us (incl 2 small children). The moment we their staff (Kak Mas) came to fetch us, we already felt the friendliness of Batik Boutique Hotel (BBH) staff. At first sight, my daughter who was very particular about her surroundings was quite disappointed but upon entering the hotel, she was very impressed. Then she was more then impressed upon entering the room. The room was GREAT! Although it is not a 5-star hotel, I myself would rate it 5-star with its service, friendliness of its staff and locationwise. I would definitely recommend BBH to any of my friends who have plans to visit Kuching. Keep up the good work. Thank you to Kak Mas, Peter, Jolene, Denise, Jack, Raj and others whom I don't get their names who have been very accomodating throughout our stay there. We really had a good time in Kuching because of you guys!!! Thank you.
