Ryokan-style hotel which is within close vicinity of all the other attractions. Was within 10 mins distance to the Dogo Onsen, the main walking street for souvenirs and food.

Staff were also fluent in English, and were dressed in very pretty kimonos!

Lovely stay in this nice place; many of the rooms are Japanese style but we had a western one. The welcome is lovely and you are shown up to your room. Our dinner was included and was exquisite - served in private rooms, it was fantastic.
Only downside was room looked a bit dated and no English-speaking TV.

Traditional style hotel, tatami mats on the floor of the main room with nothing but a coffee table and 2 chairs(you have to sit with your legs crossed), there's a hostess and she'll introduce you to your room, aske you when you'd like dinner in your room and what time you'd like breakfast. She will bring in the meals and lay them out for you, after dinner there will be someone to help the hostess to prepare the room for sleeping. The baths downstairs are really good with lots of amenities, the staff in this hotel are very friendly, courteous, polite and extremely helpful. We drove to this hotel and the next morning when we were checking-out we noticed that they had even cleaned the windscreen.

Room Tip: Top Floor of this hotel-Ryokan is the best

Wonderful hotel, excellent in every respect. Located very close to the Dogo Onsen, central shopping area, and glass museum, the Dougokan is among a number of beautiful resort hotels that serve primarily a Japanese clientele. The public areas of the hotel are artistically designed, modern, spacious, and tranquil. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and service was outstanding (including setting up futons in our Japanese-style room, holding luggage after we checked out, and ordering a taxi to take us to the station, when several men scrambled to load our luggage into the cab.) My wife used the onsen in the evening, and especially enjoyed the outdoor baths. Very good value for the money. Our rate did not include breakfast, but we had an excellent western-style breakfast in a Dutch-themed cafe in the shopping district. Matsuyama is a beautiful city, well worth spending a night or two. Great place to experience the onsens and see how Japanese families vacation. We thought that the shopping here for Japanese-made linens, tapestries, wooden items, etc. compared favorably with that of bigger cities.

The location is slight off the Main Street of Dogo so you don't get the buzzing of tourists but so close that it's only 5 mins walk away to the main streets. The room is very spacious and very friendly and helpful staff indeed. The only slight miss is that food is so so if you choose the half boarding. It's good but comparing to some of the ryokan I have been to with similar standing and price point, we had higher expected expectation. Nonetheless all and all, definitely a good choice at Dogo.
