The Yaoji Hakata hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the JR Shinkansen station. It’s quite a nice hotel with a curious (to us) layout. The lobby is on the second floor and can be reached by a set of wide stairs or elevator. We initially took the wrong turn and ended up at the spa on the main floor. Check in was fast and the staff very helpful. Because we arrived too early, the staff let us store our luggage. The room was large enough for us and the beds very comfortable. A pleasant surprise was that the accommodations included the onsen, fed by hot water from a depth of some 1200 metres. Breakfast, buffet style, was available at a cost of ¥1000 per person. Choice of western breakfast items was adequate. But the hotel was not quite perfect: the wifi signal was very weak, not only in our room at the 11th floor but even in the lobby. My other concern was that there appeared to be no control on access to the floors from the street as one could easily take the elevator from street level to the upper floors without having to stop or go through the registration area. That said, we were never concerned about unauthorized access to our room. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Ten minutes walk from Hakataka station. Front desk helpful. Nice clean small room with good facilities. Good quality breakfast with limited choice (Japanese mostly). Car park next door free for hotel guest. Easy to access.

Considering its price (US$75 or so per night), the room in this hotel had good space for moving around. The room and the hotel overall looks fairly new and it boasts of a hot spring or onsen which is free to use by the guests. Location is also great since it's walking distance to JR Hakata City station. Service just needs to be improved, the staff in the counter hardly spoke English but I guess you can live with it
