Visited the Sumida River a few days ago to see the paper lantern festival. It is believed that releasing these lanterns will guide the souls of those who have passed on to their world.

The Sumida river flows through Tokyo. It branches from the Arakawa river and flows into the Tokyo Bay. It passes through a number of wards within Tokyo city before meeting Tokyo Bay. There are numerous bridges over the river and one can take the cruise over the river from the Hamarikyu Garden up to Asakusa.

There are many pedestrian paths and gardens constructed along the river side and the river sides are illuminated during the festive seasons.

We took the water bus to Hamarikyu Park. The ticket included admission to the park.

The main attraction according to my guide is the series of bridges, each with a different color and design.

The trip was pleasant, but nothing special. It was a nice way to get to the park, however.

Unfortunately, Tokyo traffic makes it quite difficult to run around town. The go-to place in the Tokyo JR station area is the imperial palace. As such it is quite crowed. The banks of Sumida river, however, allow you to dodge traffic and are only discovered by a few local runners. Not only that, but the views can be quite nice.

Sumida river, in the area near Sumida park, is a nice place to have a walk. Several green areas where you can stop and take a nap! ;-)
