For non-Japanese travelers, the Toyoko Inns are a bit of a hidden value. Toyoko doesn't try to be more than what it is designed to be: a cheap, convenient, very clean business hotel and should be evaluated as such. The breakfast is basic but with really nice touches, like various musubi's in addition to rice from a rice cooker. It is not designed for the Western traveler but if you want to experience what is basic sustenance to start your day for Japanese, you won't find a better price for a hotel and free breakfast. As for this specific location, the reason I gave it a 4 rather than a 5 is that it is not as easy to find for foreigners. The hotel sign is not in English except for a small sign right over the front entrance. Google maps on your smart phone are essential here. It is a more like a 10 min walk with traffic lights from the JR station. However, the hotel is close to Minato Mirai and within a comfortable 30 min walk to Chinatown. A leisurely walk to the end of Yamashita Park is about 45 min with lots of sights to see. There was a staff that spoke good English and all staff are very courteous and helpful. Even in a bargain hotel, you will find traditional "omotenashi". If you haven't stayed at a Toyoko before, note that the beds are hard, intentionally so in order to have enough space under the bed to put your suitcase, unless it is a huge suitcase.

My experiences with Toyoko inns are consistently good and predictable. Great value: ~$75 for a night and includes breakfast for two. Rooms are average for Japan (small but not tiny.) Always clean and nice bathrooms but nothing fancy. Great value.

In my opinion Toyoko Inn is a good choice for budget travelers. The room is small, and the lobby is crowded during breakfast. However the minimum comfort is guaranteed. The hotel is just 5 minutes' walk from Sakuragicho station (JR and Subway) and also within a walking distance from Minato Mirai area. The nearest station is Bashamichi.

This is an economy hotel mostly patronized by businessmen. We stayed here while on a tour of Japan. The room was very compact and there was barely enough room to move around. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. There was a built-in desk and a chair and a small refrigerator. There was a LAN connection in the room but I couldn’t get it to work. I also couldn’t get the wifi in the lobby to work. There are two computers in the lobby for customer use. Breakfast was a buffet of Japanese food, mostly rice items and macaroni on the morning we were there. The hotel is within walking distance of the Sakuragicho railway station.

The rooms may be small but is well equipped with a mini water boiler and an air purifier. Within walking distance from Minato Mirai 21.. As you step out of the hotel, you can see Landmark Tower. Do pay a visit to the Landmark Tower Sky Garden observatory on the 69th floor and you can get a glimpse of Mount Fuji. The Sakuragi-cho subway station is a mere 5 minutes walk away so that makes communication very accessible.
