Bit tricky to find but well worth it. Cosy & very welcoming family run little place. We felt like we were sat in their front room. We were greeted by a lovely young lady and seated at a traditional Japanese low table. Menu was varied and had English translations so very helpful. We chose about 5 main dishes (2 adults & 2 young children). They were served pretty quickly. We were also given a free crispy jam/ cheese pastry - delicious. The food was so very tasty. Sashimi was very fresh and melted in our mouths. Roast deer, fatty salmon, crab rice soup and pork katsu curry were all delicious! We ate every single little bit of food. We would've come another night but we were moving on with our road trip. The hostess' family all served us at various stages of the evening and were all very friendly & polite; she even made a paper origami crane for my daughter for when we left. Highly recommended. I can't believe there aren't more reviews saying how great this little place is.

Dropped by for lunch. Tried the grilled venison bowl as well as the fatty salmon don. I felt that the fatty salmon bowl was overrated and too salty. Grilled venison bowl had excellent gravy and leeks. Meat was slightly over cooked but otherwise a decent bowl to have for lunch

This restaurant is exactly what you are looking for on a cool, chilly, night in Northern Japan. Its the type of place where anyone feels welcome whether it be a "table for one", a "date-night", or a large dinner with the family. The staff is lovely and makes you feel very welcome. On the menu they have a wide selection of food to choose from for both "foodie" and "fussy" eaters. We ended up ordering a lot of different dishes and they were all uniquely wonderful. A delicious homemade meal, this is your neighborhood spot, and definitely worth making a visit to.

Read the reviews about this place in the sleepy town that is Akanko. We had just summited Mt. Meakan and were starving. The hotel offered free meals, but that gets tired after a few meals. This restaurant was so delightful in every way. Family owned, you feel welcome walking in the door. The food is exceptional. We had the katsu curry and the udon curry. Was out of this world. Highly recommend this place. I just wish we would've known about this place earlier in our trip!!!

Went here whilst staying at the Lake Vista hotel nearby, had a wonderful meal in this family restaurant. A well-translated menu (English) made ordering easy, and the fatty salmon was awesome. The rest of our party was just as positive - roasted deer, roasted venison and the sashimi all were great as well. Price was good too (¥7000 for five meals, two beers and a soda).

Absolutely a place to go, a lot of locals seem to meet here too - but if you're a tourist, go here!

Note: staff speaks just a few words of English, so pointing and gesturing is probably needed.
