My brother and I have stayed here on numerous occasions that we've been In Okayama, and while it can be a bit pricey (20000 yen per night for a twin room) , I would recommend it highly, it's location is excellent being situated on the Shinkansen side of JR Okayama station, with a covered walkway direct from the concourse to the hotel.
The staff are very helpful and most speak quite good English, the rooms are spacious and well lit, and if your a railbuff (like us) you can request a Station view room where you can overlook the platforms and see the shinkansens come and go.
Its centrally located for the trams and the main shopping district, and excellent if your using Okayama as a base for train travel.

The Hotel Granvia is in an excellent location, near many restaurants, good shopping and of course, the train station.

Check in was fast and easy. I was given a large, pleasant room on a remodeled floor, which I found to be quiet, comfortable and well equipped. This is one Japanese hotel where the heating/ventilating and air conditioning works well. There is a cable for Internet, but no wireless. The bathroom was spacious, with a deep, luxurious bathtub, great for soaking! There is tea and a hotpot in the room, but coffee and bottled water are extra charge items. The television has many channels available, but only a few are in languages other than Japanese.

The second floor coffee shop has a very good breakfast buffet. They have an omlette station and both Japanese and Western breakfast items. The croissants were some of the best I've ever had, competing favorably with those in France and Switzerland.

The housekeeping staff were pleasant and effective, and always seemed to be able to clean our room when we were out (and we were in and out a lot).

Check out took a little longer than expected because there were some problems with the credit card approval system. Ultimately, the hotel had to run the charge manually. I noticed that a long line for check out had developed (maybe in part because of me?) so I would not time your check out too close to your train's departure.

I would recommend the Hotel Granvia to visitors to Okayama.

Room Tip: The hotel gave us a choice of rooms at check in, which I found to be unique and helpful in assuring a good stay. This is a big and busy hotel, so if you are easily bothered by hallway noise, be sure to select a room at either end of the hall. (the elevators are centrally located.)

Granted Okayama might not be on everyone's list of places to visit in Japan but it is the connection point to Shikoku by rail and its Castle and the Korakuen Gardens are definitely worth a look.
The hotel is connected to Okayama Station by covered walkway and there are the suual gift and shopping arcades you expect in every major railway station in Japan. As to the hotel, very "old-style" rooms, furnishings and case goods. Everything is well-maintained, of course and the added bonus is that the rooms are very big rooms. The bathrooms look and feel like a better version of a tired ffiteen year old base product but everything is clean and works and that's really all that matters. It's a convenient option, if a little tired. But not bad.

Room Tip: Book online in advance !

I picked this hotel for the location alone. I was arriving via shinkansen (bullet train) late into okayama and didn't want to wander the streets lost. This hotel is attached to the station making it very easy to access. All the staff spoke English from the front desk to the bell hops. That was impressive.

For breakfast you have two restaurant options included with your ticket. Oliver's offers a buffet with a large selection of both western and Japanese food.

The only bad thing about this hotel was the room was very outdated. It did not match the excellent service provided and the overall (high class) feel of the hotel. Thus was over priced despite the large room size I was less than impressed with the grease stained carpet.

Room Tip: Large rooms but outdated

Picked this hotel cos we needed a stopover in Okayama and Granvia is practically part of Okayama station (Granvia hotels are owned and operated by Japan Rail). The rooms were spacious and nicely fitted out, quite new I think. Best of all they had interconnecting rooms, which made family accommodation much easier. Service was friendly and helpful. Watching the bullet trains come and go provided plenty of interest for the younger (and some of the not so young) kids. There is a good supermarket just as you exit the station shops for the hotel and also lots of cafes (although like much of Japan they seem to open late, after 10am). Okayama is pretty small and it's easy enough to walk across town to see the sights or find something to eat, or you can jump on a tram (pay as you leave) which leave not far across the road from the hotel. Would have been happy to stay here longer. Make sure to visit Korakuen garden, even the kids were impressed!
