This place is so unique and it was fun exploring the common areas of the hotel and the riverwalk in the town. Our junior suite was huge, clean and comfortable. Would definitely return if ever back in this area.

This is a beautiful hotel, attention to detail very evident in every aspect. We stayed in a junior suite which was huge and very clean! I loved that there were water bottles in the fridge and at room temp and that they offered three coffee blends to choose from in the room (with keurig). The person who I think was the owner checked us in he didn’t seem to want to talk to us much, it was a brief interaction, this took me off guard based on reviews from others but it also could be because I am a socially awkward person so maybe came off as standoffish myself? Back to the room...The bed was comfy and the room smelled lovely, but the walls were thin. A man in the next room was ill and we had the unpleasant experience of hearing the affects of his illness most of the night. This is no way the fault of the hotel and could not be controlled, I am sure most guests there had to hear it as well. But overall it was a beautiful place to see and the attention to detail was evident all around!

Amsterdam Castle is one of those out-of-the-ordinary places to stay that lives up to its hype, but for the most ordinary reasons, like comfy beds and linens, a deep soaking tub, lots of newly refurbished space, suites at minimal price, clean decor AND you’re staying in a former armory with your choice of several knights in shining armor! Friendly owner, polite and helpful staff and location at the start of the Adirondacks and a stop at the Erie Canalway Bike Trail, stretching from Albany to Buffalo.

Room Tip: Junior suite is super spacious for the price. Go for it! Note that breakfast is self-serve and continental.

My husband & I would highly recommend the Amsterdam Castle. The room we had was spacious and VERY clean. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was nicely appointed. And what a unique building, very historic and kept up very well. Breakfast was simple but good and nicely presented. We would definitely stay here again if ever in the area.

We have found a new favorite place to stay on our drive from the Midwest to the Northeast! Conveniently located off the NY State Thruway, this hotel is anything but ordinary! The owner, Nigel, was so very gracious in taking the time to speak with us about his renovations and extensive art collection which is on display in various areas of the hotel. Truly a labor of love! Especially interesting was the John F. Kennedy room; we loved hearing the history of this remarkable place. Our junior suite was spacious, quiet, and clean with a very comfortable kind bed and all of the amenities we needed. In the morning we enjoyed a lovely continental style breakfast in the large main hall. Such a nice change from the chain hotels, and we definitely will return! We also received a good recommendation in the neighborhood for dinner, and there was ample parking in a private lot at the hotel. Fabulous quality for the money in every sense of the word!

Room Tip: I think any of the rooms would be delightful!
