Over the road from the station and convenient to everything worth seeing here - the fabulous castle. Room eventually given was a quiet semi-double a little bigger than most in Japan but we paid more. Not clean and bed not comfortable. Bathroom and toilet need a proper scrub and carpet cleaned. Booked non-smoking asked for a street facing room with view. Given room on smoker's floor and it stunk! Told by staff checking us in there were no non-smoking floors - not true! Told also semi-doubles had no views- not true! Was moved to 6th floor after complaining - non-smoking, no view just the guests in the nicer hotel opposite. Next morning saw entire row of semi-doubles facing the street with mountain views. After the scenic but tiring 6 hour train trip from Gora via Tokyo, would have welcomed a better attitude and cleaner room (bathroom really unhygienic and smelly). Would not stay here again but would return to Matsumoto.

Room tip: 6th floor semis facing street with mountain views

Fortunately we only had to stay here for one night as part of our Exodus Travel tour.
It is in a great location, literally across the road from the railway station but that is its only saving grace.
The first thing that hit us when we walked in was the very strange smell!
The room was clean and adequate for one night but it was tired and the decor was depressing, however it did have great free WiFi.
We didn't bother with the breakfast here but chose to buy coffee and pastries from Vie de France, a lovely bakery opposite the hotel, next to the station.
If you have a choice go somewhere else but if you find yourself staying here it will be fine.

Can't beat on location and price. It's located just opposite Matsumoto station.

Unfortunately, we were greeted with funky/musty smell in the rooms. The air freshener can only do so much. Thankfully, the windows can be opened a fraction to let fresh cool air in. The semi-double room is a tight fit even for two ladies so go for the twin room if possible. I'll probably give the other hotels a chance if I visit Matsumoto again.

Room tip: Go for twin rooms if possible

for the purpose we stayed in this hotel, i think it is very good-we stayed here one night, we wanted to visit the castle and next day to travel by bus to takayama.
1. great location: the hotel is less than 5 miunutes walking from the bus terminal and train station. 10 minutes walking to the castle. in the hotel area few streets with plenty of restaurants and bars open until late. 7 eleven 5 minutes walking from the hotel
2. staff wAS OK, nice and helpful
3. wifi in the rooms and lobby
4. clean (as every hotel i have stayed at in japan)
5. rooms are small (but was enough
6. breakfast - set of meal (western or japanise)
7. bit noisy, we stayed in 6th floor room facing the street. but if you close the window, there is a good air condition, you hardly hear anything

Room tip: high floor

This hotel is conveniently located just a few minutes from Matsumoto Bus & Train Stations. It is a typical block design with a small entrance and bar/restaurant on the ground floor. It's also not far from Crow Castle and other attractions in this attractive town. Staff were quite pleasant. That about sums up the positives.
On the negative side, rooms are quite small, even by Japanese standards, in need of decoration and there is no control over smoking. In spite of asking for a non-smoking room , ours stank of tobacco. When we complained, we got a very grudging apology and were told it was definitely a smoke-free room. Breakfast was distinctly middling too.
