A nice walk around the various attractions and the walls. The views are stunning and the history is well written on display boards. Take a good pair of shoes and some water as there are steep steps and it's not good for those with walking difficulties.

The building is considered to be the symbol of the city. The construction of the castle began in the early reign of the Anatolian Seljuq Sultan Alaaddin Kay Kubad after the contruction of shipyard and was completed in 1226.

After 2.5 years of teaching English in Turkey, exploring, learning Turkish and even marrying a Turk, I found my favorite place in Turkey: Alanya, Castle by the Sea. Swim in the clear Mediterranean at the foot of ancient castle walls. Walk on the castle walls with an olive grove on one side and the sea on the other. Ride a motorcycle up the road that goes inside castle walls to the top where towers shine in golden sunlight along a hilly Mediterranean coast. Stop for tea at a hilltop garden restaurant with fresh-made flat bread and chickens pecking by your feet. See the little market with homemade lace and scarves. You won't want to ride down the hill again or leave your Castle by the Sea.

Alanya is beautiful and a must see if you are anywhere near there. It was fun, where all the night life is and definitely cultural too.
