These two belong to a family ad they have priced it similarly and their quality is almost the same but Siam is at the back and Thai is closer to the road. If you like to have a full privacy and away feom the noises of bars and restaurants these two are perfect places for staying.
The Thai guesthouse and Siam guesthouse are on the same road and are run by the same family. We stayed in Siam guesthouse and had a fantastic time. The family who run the hotel are so lovely and are very proud of the beautiful garden they have created, it's simple but full of fruit trees, flowers and a fish pond. The room was spotlessly clean and the bathroom looked brand new. The bed and bedding were comfortable and modern. Great location for the train station and maenamkwai road (where all the backpacker bars are) Kanchanaburi is a chilled out town with some fascinating history and the prices are very reasonable compared to other tourist places in Thailand. The night market is only 5 mins walk away from the hotel and in my opinion is a 'must' for the Thai food options available. Thai/Siam guesthouse is very good value for money and we loved staying there.
After reading such positive reviews we were disappointed by this place. The room was clean (not the bathroom) and had a comfy bed. The bathroom however had droppings from maybe lizards all over the walls, the lights in the room were filthy and had 100s of dead ants or flies in them. I know it's not a 5* star hotel but just needs a bit of a better clean. The location is pretty good by all the bars and restaurants.
Stayed here for 4 nights Jan 2017 after our visit to Bangkok. Travelled from Bangkok on a minibus from Mo Chit station to Kanchanaburi station for 120 baht.
We stayed in a private double room which had a private bathroom, balcony, tv and fridge which were all great! There were coffee making facilities in the hallway but, like everywhere we have visited so far, it used powdered milk which kind of ruins the taste for me! It's free though so we could never complain and they also provide little coconut biscuits in a jar which were tasty!
We loved this place, it is in a great location at the beginning of the backpacker strip where you can find mopeds for rent for about 200 baht a day and about 40 baht to fill the tank up. The strip also has nice restaurants and bars that are lively until late but you cannot hear at all from the guesthouse.
There are lizards around the property which we really liked the idea of and tiny one that lived in our bathroom for a couple of days!! The hosts are really welcoming and you can sit downstairs of a nighttime on the benches and tables provided in the little garden area which is nice!
We visited Erawan falls and the ElephantWorld sanctuary during our stay and would definitely recommend. The public bus to Erawan stops outside of the 7-Eleven facing the train station which is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel, costing 50 baht. ElephantWorld arrange a pickup and drop off service at your guesthouse!
We would 100% recommend the night markets at the train station which sell clothes, food and desserts for very cheap and everything we tried was so tasty!
The guesthouse looked after our bags on our checkout day which was really convenient for us! The air con and wifi were great at this place! Would definitely stay again and would recommend to anybody!
This great little guesthouse was perfect for our family of 5 when we recently traveled to Kanchanaburi. We wanted somewhere close to the railway station and this was an easy walk away. The manager was very helpful and had managed to arrange a half day Tuk Tuk taxi for us to go to Hellfire Pass - this was at late notice and on the busiest Thai public holiday weekend. The rooms were comfortable. This is not luxury accommodation, but excellent value for a family having a brief stay with a busy itinerary. It was also an easy walk the the Thailand -Burma railway museum, so its location was perfect for us.
