We are currently staying at the Centara resort Hua Hin, and it's amazing. Food exceptional, service and rooms first class. We have stayed many times in Hua Hin, and this is our first time in this hotel. We have already booked for next year, as we have had such a wonderful time.
We received a lovely basket of luxury goods and wine, on arrival. Every day the staff give us little cakes and flowers, it's so lovely. We have two weeks to go, and are so pleased we are staying here.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the beach are quiet.

We just came back from our holiday in Hua Hin and this is our third time this year. They never let us down, five star facilities, superb buffet breakfast, fully equipped gym, wonderful and clean room, comfortable bed and best service from all staff. They are all professional and polite. From the front desk, the gym and even the gardener and the room maids. Don't forget to visit Khun Chiab at breakfast. So entertaining and polite
We usually go there on our birthdays. The hotel always prepares us with a little surprise every time. Nice touch
There are so many new hotels in Hua Hin. However, if you would like a real five star treat, this is the only place for you
We really can't wait to go back there again. Thank you all for the best treamtnent

Have just arrived back from the Centara and have to admit is the best hotel I have stayed in, In Thailand so far.
Service, rooms, facilities and just about everything was perfect.
Sure there was the odd minor inperfection like the odd dusty corner, but really people who can find fault overall must be looking itentionally.
We were lucky to have a ground floor room, but overall the upstairs areas are easily to access.
The food we ate in the hotel was served well and always with a smile, breakfast was a buffet and had more than enough choice, to cater for all tastes.

The swimming pools were all lovely and clean as was the decking areas and towels. Pool service was only a button away as these are located near the beds, just press and wait.
We were very lucky with weather only one rainy day. The hotel was not full to capacity and the fact there are three pools meant no areas were over crowded in fact at sometimes we semed to have the pool to ourselves.
Rooms were kept clean and tidy as was the communal areas, afternoon tea in the museum cafe was also a treat, plus dinner in the Railway restaurant was excellent.
Its easy access to Hua Hin a pleasent walk down the main drive or a short cut through the gardens.
Located on the best part of Hua Hin beach its a real joy to step from the hotel on to the beach for a relaxing walk.
The beds were really comfortable, and the pillows were wonderful a really good nights sleep.

My wife and I spent three nights in a Superior room at Centara Grand Resort, formerly Sofitel, formerly the Railway Hotel, built in 1932. The architecture echoes the architecture of the Mrigadayavan Palace (about 30 minutes away by car) designed in 1923 by King Rama VI, with long spider-leg wings that surround topiaried gardens populated by trees in the shape of deer, enormous elephants, rabbits, and birds in flight. Some of the Centara's female staff uniforms appear to be reproductions of dresses we saw at the Palace. It is like a resort modeled on a royal palace.

We arrived at the Hua Hin train station by train (not recommended) from Bangkok at 9:45 pm, and we were fortunate that a lady named Awn was moonlighting by driving for people like us. She drove us to the hotel for Baht 100. Even though we were sleepy and exhausted from the longer-than-expected train ride, we felt rejuvenated by the welcome. But we had a problem accessing the in-room wi-fi at a time we really needed it urgently for Skype and to pay bills, both that night and the next morning. Unfortunately, we could only access the free wi-fi in the lobby.

If you try to access and pay for in-room wi-fi (Baht 500 for 72 hours) and you can’t bring up the menu of packages (charges for blocks of hours) to appear on screen, don’t let the staff fiddle with your device or send a man to your room—just ask them to double check that the room is now registered in your name and not the name of the previous occupant. If we had done this at the beginning, we would have avoided a lot of pain.

Pros
• Very friendly and try-to-be-helpful staff
• Very well decorated room with wood floors, marble topped tables, marble bathroom
• Open, big porch for each room (better use deet for mosquitoes at night)
• Resort hotel close to restaurants, night market, mini supermarket, money changers.
• Inexpensive transportation. We used Ms. Awn on informal basis and an air-conditioned sedan from Hua Hin to Jakarta, door to door, costs about $60
• Great for families. Takes time to walk around and see the beach, the topiary, giant chess board, maze
• Famous breakfast (they even mix fresh juices) on a lovely wide terrace overlooking the grounds
• Great for walking, especially to top TripAdvisor restaurants in the area (see a Google map) bounded east-west by Naret Damri Road and Petchakasem Road (the main highway), and on the north and south by Damnern Kasem and Chomsin Roads. Dechanuchit road on the west side of Petchakasem Road is Soi 72, the famous Night Market that opens about 6 pm.

Con
• Our initial in-room wi-fi problems shouldn’t happen to guests who have read this. Bit of a nuisance to have to log in user name and password every time we went on wi-fi

We ate at the Railway Restaurant and Hagi Japanese Restaurant. The food was very good in both places, but more expensive than in the restaurants on small streets between the Hilton Hotel and the Centara. Minus the in-room wi-fi problem, this is a superb hotel for relaxation and enjoyment. Most of the guests in our area were foreigners, about one third with families. Several large groups, but we never felt the groups took over the place. Lots of resort-style activities will suit everyone’s taste.

I returned to the Centara (formerly Sofitel) having visited nine years previously and this was without doubt the best stay I have had. The architecture of the fine colonial style is unique in Hua Hin (if not Thailand) and immediately sets this hotel apart from any other locally. The established gardens and grand layout contribute to the laid back and comfortable surroundings so considerately, it is a beautiful hotel to visit. It is right in Hua Hin and so it is easy to reach all the restaurants, bars, markets etc on offer.

Without doubt, the single aspect that sets this hotel apart are the staff. For me they can make or break a visit and every member of staff that I encountered was always pleasant, happy and helpful. Even the "non guest facing" members of staff such as the gardeners are delighted to say hello.

I spent a large amount of time in the Club and it is simply fantastic. To take breakfast there is relaxed and comfortable, evening drinks are pleasant and the canapees on offer are varied, thoughtful and wide ranging. Again, the best thing about the Club are the staff. 'Gentle friendliness' is a term that has been used before and is apt here: the staff are delighted to talk, to have a joke, to help you with your Thai, to get you something that you'd like but they are also mindful to varied situations and are never intrusive. I was delighted to have some great conversations with the Club staff.

So many of the hotel staff are not likely to get mentioned because they go about their work with little fuss, the bell boys and housekeepers are exceptionally helpful and friendly, the pool staff could not be more obliging and the restaurant service is exquisite.

We had a delightful meal in the Palm Pavilion and it occurred to us that it didn't seem particularly popular and is possibly therefore a hidden gem. Everyone should have a meal there. It is fantastic, as is the Salathai restaurant and of course the evening buffets in the Railway Restaurant.

I met the management on a couple of occasions who maintain a discrete presence throughout the hotel, who clearly understand quality service and who are running a fine establishment.

I have read a few negative reviews about the Centara on Tripadvisor and can only suggest to anyone that doesn't enjoy a stay here to have a look at themselves rather than pick fault in what is in my view a faultless hotel.

Room Tip: A club room is certainly worth the extra. I have stayed in a number of rooms and never had a bad one.
