From the front entrance and lobby, you would imagine this to be a nice hotel.
It is the opposite. The rooms really are awful here. The only reason why it did not get a 1 out of 5, was that the staff were friendly ans was a nice welcoming. Plus the buffet breakfast was 'okay', but most things cold, even after just opening for breakfast. Plus wi-fi was actually decent.
I don't know if this is the same for all the rooms, but my room was awful. tired, worn down, old and desperate need for a renovation.
Nothing was good about it. The biggest thing was the smell of urine in the room, but more so from the bathroom. It was strong and really gross.
There were stains on the wall and ceiling in the room and the mattress, you fell right into and not comfortable at all. The door was hard to open. Had to physically put shoulder into it. There was not a safe and the balcony was worn and unappealing.
The management and owners have let this go and I cant believe this hotel is $70 per night. I stayed in other places for half the price that were many times better.
I do not recommend this hotel.

Room tip: NO tips. Cannot recommend any room.

I've make a booking with Hotel Cloud Nine, Negombo, Sri Lanka but to be informed that the air-conditioner in our room was down caused of the rainy days (ridiculous excuse ever). We were then being transferred to their other hotel property, Golden Star Beach Hotel of which our nightmares begun! From the incompetent rude staff, dirty aged room, musty foul smell, dusty floor, uncomfortable mattress, dirty sheet, cold shower, etc. We were too tired to change to another hotel again at that point of time but to tolerate for a night since we would be leaving to airport early in the morning at 7am.

The property photos were totally misleading! What a scam i would say.

PLEASE AVOID TO STAY HERE BY ALL MEANS !

Room tip: Just avoid to stay here

I ordered a room for 2 nights and got a reasonable price, but the first room I was offered was very worn, small and had a defective balcony door, so I refused to stay there. After some negotiation with the front desk I was assigned a bigger room with a closable door. However, due to a power cut in Negombo, a very noisy generator was running close by until 10 o'clock in the evening - and a heavy rain reached all way into the room through the ceiling. The rain stopped and the staff cleaned up the room. The very next day the story repeated itself - and I was moved to another room, which kept dry! The smell of sewage is very noticeable in the hotel, when it is raining heavily.
In general the hotel is old and tired. The staff was very kind and polite - and the breakfast was really excellent .
