We had another excellent stay at Villa Semana in December. You cannot beat the location of this property which overlooks the Ayung River with jungle on the other side and some gorgeous rice paddies. The villas are very Balinese and mostly open to the views. For Northerners the atmosphere is everything you fantasize about when you think of a tropical holiday. Upon entering the villa you have your own, private pond. your personal plunge pool has a beautiful view. The bathrooms are spacious with soaker tubs and outdoor showers. The bedrooms are air-conditioned to any degree you like. They are not large but who cares when the outdoor spaces are so great!!! The beds are super comfy.. The service is impeccable from the moment they pick you up at the airport. Jurg, the Swiss owner, runs a tight ship. Everything is beautifully maintained. Breakfast is included and the food and coffee are excellent. Lovely fruit, breads and pastries, and whatever main dish you want. The gardens and pool area are really lovely. There is a serenity to this place which cannot be described. It is a ways outside Ubud but they do have a shuttle which runs every hour. As you can see I really love this place. Wish I could spend more time there!

Room Tip: Make sure you specify what type of view you want so you are not disappointed.

From the moment we arrived at Villa Semana we were treated like royalty. The staff were waiting on our arrival with cool towels and an exceptionally warm welcome with smiles, drinks and snacks. We stayed at the villa for four nights and the staff made us feel like they were there to serve only us!
The location is spectacular overlooking the Ayung River and the surrounded by rice paddies and nature.
We enjoyed the package which included a cooking class, a half day tour and a 2 and a half hour treatment at the spa. We highly recommend it!
The cooking was fun but the eating of this exquisite meal was the best! In fact along with the chilled bottle of wine, it could have been the best meal we had in Bali! Great ingredients and the most patient chefs!
The half day tour was exceptional also. Adi was our driver and quickly became like a friend showing us around. We learned so much about the Balinese culture through his commentary and he even took us to his house to show us how a typical local lives! Fantastic - cannot speak highly enough of this young man.
The Spa of course was just luxurious from start to finish - a trip to Semana would not be complete without it!
The drivers are available to drive their guests into Ubud every hour and will pick up again at a designated time, it meant we never needed to hire any of the many taxis on offer to us on the streets!!
All in all a wonderfully romantic and relaxing escape from reality.

My wife and I have just returned from an extended vacation in Asia. Part of our vacation included a trip to Bali. A good friend of ours suggested we stay at the Villa Semana.
I would state categorically that this is the single best place that we have EVER stayed in our 30 years of traveling.
Our host/owner, Jurg, is a genuine Swiss hotelier. He made sure that we felt like royalty, Jurg did not miss any opportunity to consistently exceed our expectations. He made us feel like we were old friends.. .
The food was imaginative and delicious. The ammenities were first class.
We stayed in the Chempaka Villa. The setting is unique with the river running past this very private Villa and pristine rain forest on the opposite bank of the river.
My wife and I went to the spa and had the Semana massage for two. I highly recommend it. The spa is situated right on the bank of the river and there is a waterfall coming off the hill that surrounds the spa. Words can not due this experience justice, The sounds of the river coupled with the sounds of the waterfall while receiving our massage, was fabulous.
I look forward to a return visit, thanks Jurg.
.. .

Room Tip: If you can book Chempaka, go for it.

We were upgraded to the Semana Suite - exquisite private location, overlooking the Ayung River. The service was impeccable and everything about the surroundings, inside and outside, was memorable. Jurg Suter, the owner, (a very interesting bigger than life character), invited us for a bike ride through the ride paddies. This bike ride still remains a highlight of our 5 week stay in Bali. Even if you are tired and he asks - say yes! And do have a couples' massage - we had lots during our stay in Bali and nothing compared to Villa Semana.

I stayed here for two nights, precisely at the Cempaka Villa. Since we entered the lobby, we already felt good as we were greeted by smiling staff and green paddy terrace. Walking closer to our booked villa, the sound of the river were stronger. The villa was more than what we expected! It was so private with its nice garden, swimming pool, natural green trees around, and river view. It’s not just a river, I heard it is the longest river in Bali, Ayung river. The outer atmosphere conjured up my memory of living in a traditional village. Fortunately, the inside was as beautiful as the outer part. The bedroom felt so homey that was decorated with lovely mosquito net and unique furniture. I remembered that there was a sofa placed at the corner of the bedroom where I could look out into the river while enjoying my favorite music through ipod player provided. The amazing thing is this place has a very good Wi-Fi connection so I can still communicate with some family. Sorry, I’m a city girl that always need the internet. The bathroom was spacious with its lovely ceramic-build-bath-tub. The food in its restaurant were incredibly tasty, especially the Balinese Chickenball Soup. I love it so much! The outdoor spa system was very creative! I felt very relaxed and pampered by the professional spa therapist treatment while listening to the river sound and the birds chipping. Every thing was so well managed here, thanks to its friendly and hospitality-expert owner. Stayed here and indulge yourself!

Room Tip: Cempaka Villa is the best deal!
