We stayed at this hotel for 14 nights out of a 23 day holiday with our 2 daughters (9yrs & 4yrs). Located 150mtrs from Poppies 2 (beach end) was good. Just outside the hotel entrance on the right we found the loveliest Balinese family. Mumma Nickie did plaits, nails, washing, motorbike transport and a small cloths shop. She also had her daughter babysit our daughters 3 times in our hotel room. She would even come over a couple of times to check that everything was ok. My husband was sick in the stomach one day and when she found out she brought over some home cooked chicken and rice and a special Balinese drink for upset tummies. It did the trick he felt better after a few hours. We miss Mumma and her family very much. The Hotel...rooms ok, bathrooms were horrendous!! Service...some staff good, some couldn't care less. Pool...Big nice surroundings, no service at pool bar though. Breakfast was ok. Relaxing and peaceful budget hotel.(They were upgrading some rooms as we left)

Tucked away down an unassuming lane off Poppies II, Bali Sandy Cottages isn't the easiest place to find. However, this is what makes it a hidden gem in the often crowded and at times frustrating Kuta area of Bali.

When we visited, a couple of rooms were still being built, but they were on the far side of the hotel and didn't detract at all from the rest of the accommodation. The rooms that are finished are reasonably spartan, but then at the price we paid you couldn't expect more. Some have air conditioning, while others have fans, although you probably don't need the former - we certainly didn't.

One of the great things about Bali Sandy Cottages is that Popies Lane II is about a 3 minute walk away, while Kuta Beach is about 8 or 9 minutes; in other words it's perfect for whatever you want to do in Bali, really. Another plus is that as soon as you step outside you don't get the ubiquitous hassle - that only comes after about 3 minutes.

The staff were generally pretty good, with no major complaints, while, although the breakfast is a standard pancake and coffee affair, it is included in the price of the room. The sleep quality can, at times, be a bit of a negative, but then there's few hotels in Bali that ensure you an uninterrupted sleep, so it's only a minor gripe. All in all, my wife and I loved Bali Sandy Cottages and will definitely be staying again in the near future.

Pros :
lovely gardens
Nice pool

Cons :
Location close to Kuta beach(Kuta beach is hellish cesspit)
Terrible breakfast(piece of toast and a coffee)
Dodgy staff trying to sell us crap
Bad bathroom with barely functioning shower
Located down the end of a seedy back alley

Conclusion :
Stayed 1 night as a late night option from the airport.
Overpriced and let down by the ridiculous 'continental breakfast' and shifty staff trying to sell overpriced tours to us.
To get in and out of the hotel you have to run the gauntlet of hordes of street hawkers which is a pain.
Avoid.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. It was a pleasant staying, below are our comments during our stay in Balisandy cottages;
-The hotel locations
the hotel is situated in Poppies lane 2, which connects kuta beach and legian street, therefore very close with both places. Poppies lane, legian street and kuta beach is very crowded and ‘never sleeps’, however the hotel is surprisingly quiet and has a very calm atmosphere. Our 2 nights there has always been very comfortable for us to sleep. In the morning, we could listens to the birds, despite the facts that 200 meters from the hotel is very very busy environments.
-The design and conditions of the hotel.
The hotel is bali classic design, the exterior designs is full of traditional bali sculptures. The park is excellent with the flowers and trees. The pool is very nice and quite huge. The room is spacious, the air con also works very good, the fridge is small but ok, the TV has international channels. Unfortunately, the bathroom is a bit old and lil bit rusty, but the hot and cold water works well. The toiletries the hotel provide are only towels and soap (no shampoo, dental kit or sewing kit) but both are very nice, the towels are fluffy and very sweet scented.
-The hotel service
The staff is ok, they dont greet us very often, but we could feel their sincerety and warm welcome. The breakfast is standard, the choices are fried rice or fried noodles or bread, we also received free tea and cofee and fruit/orange juice.
-The hotel value
We spent about 1000 K (about USD 100) for 2 nights staying which we consider worth spent. The location is excellent, the situation and condition of the hotel is very good either. Not luxury but very comfortable stays.
