“Decent option, clean room, friendly staff”
Reviewed 6 November 2011

We arrived rather late in Udaipur, and the Krishna Niwas was our third choice, after the first two were full. The price of the room was negotiable.
The room very much lacked fresh air and natural light (the only windows were hidden in an alcove and it was hard to get fresh air in). The room was sparkling clean, the bathroom ditto. Hot water was available, shower pressure was very good, but it was hard to get merely warm water, it was either scolding hot, or icy cold.
The bed was comfortable, the AC soundless, the room had a new feel to it.
The breakfast served on the rooftop was nothing special, the toast was always a bit cold, bit damp, but when we asked, they served it specially for us half an hour earlier.
The cooking class offered by the hotel was very good, well presented, useful, plus it came with a big, very tasty dinner. Its a bit of downside that you can only watch the preparations and not participate, but its still very good value.
Internet was not available in our room, only in the lobby, and it didnt work every day.
The car they organized for us to visit Kumbalargh and Ranakhpur was a bit pricier than the other tour agencies down the hill, but the driver was friendly and honest, we forgot our camera in the car when he dropped us off in the evening(stupid mistake), and he brought it after us.
The reception staff is also a big plus, Vijay was genuinely helpful, and not just after our money.
All in all, if you can get one of the bigger rooms, it is a good choice. A 7:30 opening for the rooftop restaurant would be appreciated, as everyone leaves in the morning, and other hotels can apparently easily do it, and so would be WiFi repeaters on every level.

Room Tip: Dont pick the room on the 3rd floor, next to the kitchen!

The location of this hotel is very good so the main tourist sites are within a few minutes walk which was great for us. The owners of the hotel are a wonderful and kind couple but the actual hotel is quite run down, its quite noisy too as it seems walls & windows are very thin so sleep quality was not great, but as with most places you do get what you pay for, so if you pay a little less for a room then you should expect a little less too! If you are lucky to get the rooms with windows then the view of the lake is nice, water was always a little sporadic from 9am and they do need to work on cleanliness a little more and buy new towels, linens as all of ours were grubby & stained.

Room Tip: Focus on the lake facing rooms as the others are a bit dark and damp.

We (a couple) stayed at the Krishna Niwas for three days. It was a very pleasant stay - and we had a room with a view over Lake Pichola! Everything was clean and perfect for a couple of relaxing days in India.

The cooking class is indeed recommendable - as it is a unique possibility to learn about indian cooking.

We stayed in this hotel during August for three nights. The room was comfortable and basic, and excellent value for money. It was also very clean.
The best things about this hotel were the location - it is very central, and the rooftop terrace has incredible views over the lake - and the staff. Eating breakfast cooked by Sushma while watching birds swoop over the lake was one of my favourite moments in Udaipur. The family who run the hotel were extremely welcoming, and the cooking class run by Sushma was fantastic. They were also very accommodating - looking after our luggage before we left, arranging transport and so on.
One tip is not to take a taxi from the station, but take an auto-rickshaw instead as the streets of Udipur are very windy. Another tip is to make sure you try the cooking course.
