Chetak is a loyal and brave horse of Shri Maharana Pratap. When he was injured and can hardly walk, he has carried a distance of 5-6 kms. to Maharana Pratap, on his three legs. After dropping Maharana Pratap at safe place from enemy, he has taken his last breath. Truly dedicated and brave horse.
Dedicated to Horse Chetak, a very loyal and brave horse of Shri Maharana Pratap. He has been nick-named as "Swamibhakt" for his dedication and bravery.
Chetak Smarak is dedicated to Maharana Pratap's loyal horse; Chetak. As per belief, Chetak has carried injured Marharana Pratap on his back around 5 Kms. or so when he himself was injured and can stand/run on only three legs. After dropping Maharana Pratap at safe place away from Haldi Ghati Battlefield, Chetak has taken his last breath at this place.
The statue celebrates the life of local hero Chetak Smarak and his horse.
There is even a panel on the side of the statue depicting him comforting his horse as it lies dying in battle.
The site from its position overlooking the city has marvellous views.
It also has one of the most absurd information boards I have ever read to the right of the plinth. Try reading if you visit
This place many may find boring. But it is built on a height giving view of the city. Good place to city enjoy the weather and unwind post tiring sight seeing trip.
Chetak Smarak is on top of Moti Magri Hill with great views of Udaipur all around and the lakes particularly Fatehsagar. The place gives a great feel of history with the heroics of Maharana Pratap and his trusted horse Chetak. The entry tickets are over- priced but still its worth a visit. We visited around noon but it wasn't very uncomfortable but the bright sun was good for photography. There are a lot of places to be covered including the gardens with many flowers, viewpoints of the lakes and the city. Also worth mentioning is the status of Hakim Khan Sur who fought alongwith Rana Pratap against the Mughals in the battle of Haldighati. And there is a fortress and a temple as well. Overall a lovely experience.
