Hindustan Beach Retreat is bang on Papanasam beach and has all sea facing rooms. However there is no private beach attached to the resort and you will have to step out to the public beach for your sea experience. The public beach also has a good number of Tantris (priests) engaged in Pitrutarpana ( a Hindu ritual paying homage to the departed souls) which attracts sizable crowd of locals- hence you will find the beach front right in front of the hotel crowded- good for people watching from the rooms.
The rooms are well kept - the housekeeping standards are not bad. And the front office staff provide efficient and attentive service. You can walk up the cliff for trying out the numerous restaurants and shops on the Cliff side while enjoying the sea view and sea breeze. There is a small pool to cool off and the retreat has a roof top restaurant -we did not try it except for the complimentary breakfast.
The breakfast spread is very good and the live cooking station dishes out omelettes, dosas , appams etc. Don't turn up right on dot at the starting time -they take a good half an hour after the starting time to get everything on the buffet table.
The hotel also offers Ayurvedic spa facilities- the prices are competitive.
