“Oasis of calm with wonderful ambience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2012

Found this gem when visiting the Dutch Palace/ Spice market in Fort Kochi. A veritable treasure house of ancient artifacts and trinkets- from full scale ceremonial longboats to more recent wooden carved statues at affordable prices. Located in an old warehouse not far from the Synagogue the building is vast but the light at the end of the tunnel is the sparkling waterside cafe, overlooking the main navigable channel from the Kerala backwaters. Clean and comfortable the snack menu had everything you would expect, service wasnt rushed but the place is somewhere nice to chill and pass time, watching the herons and water hyacinths float by. As its name states a major ingredient is ginger so try the ginger ice cream or ginger soda.- the choice seems limitless!

“Pleasant ambience, clean kitchen, high prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 January 2012

A casual sit down restaurant in an extremely convenient location in the middle of Jew Town. Ambiance was pleasant as restaurant is located in nice antique store right on waterfront. Service was slow but not unusually so as India generally operated at a slow pace. Hygiene and cleanliness were at a high level and we could eat without concern. Prices were quite high for a casual sit down restaurant and we though that the portions were inadequate in quantity, considering the price. However, food was tasty. Ginger ice cream in particular is highly recommended.

“the most amazing spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2012

We spotted this place during a boat trip and then walked the road until we found it. Keep faith as you walk through a huge antique shop that is more like a museum of wonderful things including a full size dragon boat. At the far end find a secret restaurant with a huge shady terrace overlooking the sea. Sit at antique tables surrounded by statues, greenery and columns and stare at the views before you tuck into inexpensive and delicious food prepared freshly whilst you wait. A sublime spot and a highlight of our time in Kochi. No beer but a good range of cold drinks and juices. We loved the vegetable pakoras and home made ginger icecream.
