“Great Holiday”
Reviewed 24 March 2012

We arrived late in the evening and was given a ground room with ocean views but it had a wall near the room which blocked the views, so we changed to the 1st floor with a lovely balcony right on the beach. It was extremely quiet with only 4 to 5 couples or families around the pool area and about 8 couples near the beach area, I think in total there were only 30 people in the hotel. The Thai restaurant was lovely but we went to Naama Bay, which was lovely. Our breakfast was included, but I felt it was very basic, hardly any fresh fruit, not 5 star standard but ok.The rooms were extremely clean, and every night when we came back to our room we loved how they decorated my daughter's toys etc. We had a blocked toilet and nobody came to fix it after 2 hrs and then after midnight we got 4 phone calls from different departments to find out what was the problem, but we did get a fruit platter the next day which had more fruit on it than breakfast served. We went on the Blue Whole trip and we did not know we needed towels and we were told that the pool towel area was not opened and we should of organised it the day before, had we known we would of, so my husband went and got the room towels!!!! Big tip do not do the Blue Hole trip as it was misleading in the fact that we had to pay for hiring our wetsuits, goggles, flippers & buoyancy vest which was £45 for the 3 off us and then my daughter would not go in the water!!! The day before we left they wanted to charge us £50 extra to stay in our room till 3pm as our flight did not leave till 9.30pm so my husband said that it was crazy as there was hardly anyone at the hotel, so we left at 5pm and we said that we were late as there restaurant took over an hour to even serve our food, so they let us off. We were lucky that my daughter had a few kids to play with as it was so empty. We really had a wonderful stay, it was peaceful and beautiful setting, judging from other hotel guest that we spoke to said they come every year and stayed in many of the hotels and this was one of the best to stay in as we met other people from other hotels on trips and they were all not happy i.e. food, accommodation etc. If we went back to Sharm we would stay there again but hopefully it would be better in the school holidays when more people would be there.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms on 1st floor with built in lounge on balcony and close to pool area

Stayed here for 2 weeks with my girlfriend. From the second we got there we were treated like a king and queen! Nothing was to much hassle (even, as it was Valentine's Day during our holiday, calling reception to see if they could get me a big beautiful bunch of flowers whuch they duly did!)
Room was big and clean, very good service every day.
A short walk to the main complex where breakfast was every morning. And WHAT A BREAKFAST they put on, a feast!

The inifinity pool was very nice and the view from sitting in it was breathtaking. Perfect location for sun from 9am-5pm!

Basic (but has just enough there) gym facilities which we used every day after sunbathing and before dinner.

The choice of different restaurants in the complex is very good (The asian and the grill restaurants being our 2 favourites)

Taxi into Naama Bay can be ordered easily, taxi itself is qute an experience! Reps there to organise trips, we did the quadbiking trip which was ok.

This hotel/resort is very special and would fully reccomend to anybody.

we have just returned from our fifth and beyond doubt our best ever time at the grand rotana
our holiday in early March was for 10 days half board . We contacted the hotel pre holiday and arranged for an upgrade to Club Rotana suite located on the first floor with memorable views over the Red Sae and Tiran Island . A courtesy hotel Limo met us at the airport on arrival ensuring a no hassle start to our holiday
the club facilities enabled us enjoy separate breakfast facilities , canopes and Sushi at 5 pm together with a welcoming free drink or 2 every night Our guest relations Reba was fantastic towards us during our stay (L)
During our stay the hotel was only at 15% occupancy with the staff could not do enough for us Their overall courteousness and willingness to go out of their way was a credit to the hotel
The management were highly visible always checking the food quality and level of service with Mr Marcus Greg , the Executive Chef the food and beverage director and Mr Alaa the restaurant manager all ensuring that guest were having a great stay
I could go on and on but suffice to say this was a fantastic holiday . if you are looking for a truly 5 star hotel that offers a non all inclusive enviroment then this is the hotel
beats me why this fabulous hotel is only 45th in the rankings If you require any additional information I will be happy to respond
thank you to all at grand rotana and look forward to visiting again next spring

Room Tip: write to hotel direct pre holiday and request upgrade range and prices . Club Rotana block 1 if bu...

This place was so good I have difficulty understanding why it is not more popular. Then again, read on.....

Travel:

We flew via Thomas Cook - and although the flight could feel a little cramped at times the flight times were very decent. Once you get into Sharm, the hotel was only ten minutes away and we were the first to be dropped off. Despite this it did not feel as if you were next door to the airport and you hardly ever noticed the planes flying overhead.

First impressions: Once you passed some of the less built up parts of the neighbourhood which were still undergoing construction you were faced with quite a sparkling looking edifice and once inside, the staff at Reception (eg Mona in particular) were very pleasant and efficient.
We had paid for a sea-view and were told that although we had been earmarked for a side sea view we were going to be given a full sea view room which was a nice step.

The room: Close to the sea with a nice view of the water and palm trees. A nice sized balcony which we spent quite a lot of time lounging around on when we didnt want to sit on the beach any longer. Inside the room was spacious, clean, with a proper double bed and shower but no bath. It included TV, safe and complimentary tea/coffee but only complimentary water on the first night. ( I think it would be a nice touch but not essential to have this every day and would make the resort appear more 'user friendly.') It is definitely worth paying the extra money for the sea-view.

Food: we travelled on a half board basis and the food was quite simply THE BEST FOOD WE HAVE HAD IN AN EGYPTIAN RESORT. It was delicious, well cooked, different every night (I'm talking about the main dining areas Ramses/Rameses) with proper attention to detail. The beef was tender and without excess fat and I cannot compliment the staff highly enough on this. A lot of the food was traditional/semi-traditional and so there were no chips or pizza's in sight (though there is an italian restaurant if you want pizza) so if you go HB and dont want to pay for any further food this might, might, might, disappoint you. The staff in the restaurant were great, attentive without being OTT and deserve a round of applause.

Leisure activiites: A great house reef. The reef edge is about 20-30 yards from shore with two well designed piers to take you out. The larger one had glass bottom sections to let you watch the reef without getting your feet wet.
The gym was well equipped and mostly empty (except between 4-5pm)and you got a bottle of water when you visited and a chance to grab an apple.
Tennis is available as is a diving centre.
There are lots of other rec activities you can do away from the hotel (Star gazing) though we opted to do nothing. A free bus to the centre is laid on three times a day.
We did leave the grounds on two occasions but got hassled by one shop keeper who just pestered us continuously - but others were fine- and included a pharmacy and drinks shop.
The grounds of the resort are huge, and for the time of the year it was very easy to find somewhere to sit undisturbed and out of the way. The grounds are pretty (with a nice amphitheatre) well landscaped and well looked after. There are lots of steps and slopes so it can be a bit uphill if you want to walk around - although this was great exercise. There were however some giant escalators within the hotel itself to get you from top to bottom.
The hotel has a giant pool and water slide. There wasn't a lot of evening entertainment and the DISCO or whatever the equivalent was, was closed (YAY!) so silence reigned supreme. There was however some sort of entertainment on most evenings, eg guitar/sax in the bar, and on another evening some head spinningly good traditional dancing reminiscent of Whirling Dervishes. (things may differ in-summer.)

We were here during the off season, and it felt at times as if the place was deserted, this was partly because there weren't that many visitors but also because the place is so huge. It was also very very quiet which was perfect. I think the reason there arent so many people there, is partly political, but also because of the worldwide downturn - the more expensive places probably get hit the hardest. This is one of the more pricier establishments and may be seen as less value for money given that it is not all inclusive - but as with many things in life you do get what you pay for, and with the GRR&S you get peace, solitude, luxury, great food, very nice and welcoming staff and many happy memories.

Room Tip: Pay for the sea views and try to get the full seas view.

The hotel is very big but despite that it never felt overly busy but maybe that was just the downturn in tourism to
Egypt due to the recent political troubles. While the staff were first class and nothing was too much trouble and much of the public area was very grand the rooms were functional and very clean but not 5* by any means. All the facilities we visited were immaculate, from the gardens to the swimming pool, sun terraces and restaurants. The overly loud music around the pool from poor quality or broken speakers was not a bonus.
The hotel is considerably more isolated than we expected (ie there is nothing there apart from a small shop selling water and the normal tat) no chance of wandering out to find dinner or a bar, just more inaccessible hotels and desert. That generally meant eating in at the hotel and while the food was good it was 5* prices.
The highlight for us was the house reef. Snorkelling was amazingly simple and the reef stunning. Even for those who have a shark or water phobia fish watching is very easy from the sun terraces.
Summary: very expensive for what it was but staff and fish were winners. It is not in walking distance of anything apart from desert. And don't bother with Na'ama Bay, absolutely awful. Nice holiday but wouldn't repeat.
