“Good for a kids family holiday but that's all.”
Reviewed 4 March 2012

It is trying to be an up market 5 star hotel which it simply isn't.

But as we did for a kids family holiday it's ideal.

Food is average but ok, kids could always find something they liked from the buffet so that was a result.

Don't bother with the paid for restaurants, they are dreadful.

Be relaxed and let things go... After all you are in Egypt and levels of quality and service are very different.

There are non stop activities if you want them and the in house reef is beautiful as is all of the share red sea.

The info meeting is actually worth one of you going to as it is a big hotel and you could easily miss a lot if you don't get told about it.

Our biggest surprise was the amazing quality of the spa! I was dreading the couple massage my wife booked but it was amazingly pleasant. She also returned with our teenage daughter for a double pedicure which was also so I'm to,d very very good.

The in house shops id stay away from and the guys that run them were very inappropriate and even wolf whistled my wife when walking with our 2 year old alone. Unacceptable in a family hotel. The staff generally should keep their eyes to them selves, several times my wife and daughter felt uncomfortable in the hotel.

I would come back but I would also make sure we book a swim up pool again as this was a god send. The main pool gets very very busy with few beds available so having your own private space is a must.

Room Tip: Swim up pool room

On arrival, the reception staff were very courteous and helpful. Unfortunately, this was the one area of the hotel which over our week at the hotel consistently offered the poorest service. On our first night, the room key card failed and required a walk back to reception to get it fixed. The receptionists’ attitude was at best condescending and verging on rude, as if it was my fault the card had failed. On another occasion, my wife tried to book a restaurant for my birthday and was told in no uncertain terms to use the terminals (see below). Not helpful.

With the odd exception, the levels of service at the hotel are exemplary. Most of the staff cannot do enough to help you, with a smile. You are never made to feel that something is too much trouble. Having said that, whilst always being available, the service is not 'in your face' as we have experienced in other supposedly high end hotels, most of it is subtle, but highly effective.

Our room at the Sensatori was both functional and comfortable. Of all the areas of the hotel though, it was the one which was most tired and in need of a tidy up and refurbish. The main area where this was apparent was the bathroom which was in need of some care and attention to bring it up to the specification that the rest of the hotel is trying to achieve. A nice touch was the 'towel art' which greeted us on our first day there. The room was cleaned daily, though as my wife put it, you could tell it was a man cleaning as sometimes it was slightly less than thorough. The bed was extremely comfortable and both of us slept well all week.

Before commenting on the individual restaurants at the Sensatori we have to comment on the restaurant booking system. It is probably the worst aspect of staying at the Sensatori. If you want to book one of the restaurants you have to queue 3 days before hand. If you are not in the queue by 9:30am, forget it! Otherwise, take a book and make some new friends whilst you are queuing.

The Fountain View restaurant (main ‘canteen’ style) is probably the best of its type that we have used. There was always a good choice of food to suit every taste, quite a lot of it cooked to order. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service at table for drinks was first class. If you are a couple with no children, there is a couple’s only area to the left of the restaurant as you walk in.

The Casa Bianca restaurant (bearing in mind we’d had to queue for an hour to book 3 days in advance) was very disappointing. We experienced possibly worst service at the hotel, both at reception and at table. The food was also of a low standard, a 5 year old could’ve done a better presentation of the salad I had for a starter. The service whilst poor, was also very rushed. The Marhaba restaurant was a nicer experience. The food was better and the service was up to the hotels normal levels.

Overall the quality of drinks available for an all-inclusive package was good. It was a little confusing in the bars where the drinks menus still contain prices (from the old Coral Sea days). Drinks were readily available all day from 10am to midnight. The adult pool area is one of the best parts of the hotel. The service from the guys at the bar was absolutely fantastic and the service to your lounger/sunbed was both unexpected and welcome for a hotel of this price band.

The Sharm Sensatori is a good hotel and we would recommend it mainly for couples, but in our opinion it is suitable for families with small children up to around 9 or 10 years old. It is not however, despite most of the staff trying really hard, a great hotel. The infrastructure is a little tired in places and the service levels can slip in places. Having said that, there are a number of 5 star hotels in the UK that we have been to that could take some lessons from the overall standard of service at the Sensatori. Overall a very enjoyable holiday and we would certainly consider returning.

Room Tip: If you are a couple with no children, go for the rooms in the adult section. Quiter and closer to th...

We stayed the last week in Jan, first week in Feb. Our first trip to Sharm. The brochure enthuses on how great the Sensatori experience is, however on being shown to our room, which on first appearances appeared to be good, it was spoilt by thick black mould all around the bath. Not something that is associated with 5 stars!! This took 3 days to resolve and the cure was to cover the mould with new white mastic, which the mould showed through after it had cured!!
The sea view upgrade overlooked waste ground with piles of builders rubble and the sea in the background. Technically I suppose that this IS a sea view!
Apart from waiting for 20 mins for a table to be cleared of dirty glasses, the service & politeness from staff everywhere was excellent, although it was obvious that some areas were understaffed
The food in the Fountain restaurant was a good average. The Italian and Middle Eastern were excellent. Three of us had steak in the Tirana beach side restaurant. Only one was deemed edible, the other two would have made good shoe leather!! Also as the roof is open it was very cold in the evening at this time of year. Although we had coats, it was not really conducive to having a great dining experience!
Having stayed previously in other 5star hotels around the world, this does not come anywhere near the required standard. Looking at the overall cost, I would say it was value for money. Just do not expect all the hype from the brochure!

Our only "negative" observation is you could actually be anywhere whilst staying in this resort, but you could say that's a good thing.

We had a swim up room in the adult section. The room was large enough, clean and very comfortable.

We chose to stay around our room on most days, the bar service here was great - the attendant came round frequently to make sure we were okay.

The main Foutain Veiw restaurant did get busy at peak times but was staffed well enough to deal with this. The food was better than you could expect to deal with the extensive open hours and varied taste of people. We found the waiters very attentive, even without a tip, and there was quite a few managers around ensuring tables were cleared, clean available at all the sittings.

We tried the various al a carte restaurants and thought they were ok. In one we left before desert only to be chased after by the manager who was full of genuine concern about our experience as we had left "early".

These people have a genuine desire to please.

The hotel is situated on a private beach, a short wade or swim and you are on the corral reef, with all it's delights - as a couple who usually stick to the pool and sun bed we would urge you to go explore.

We had two teenage boys who took advantage of the organised sports etc and loved every minute of it.

As for the entertainment, that's not our thing but there was plenty going on for those who like to burn the midnight oil.

In summary - staff friendly and attentive, food ok, rooms at the top end of expectations.

If we had one big complaint was the Thomson flights were terrible.

Arrived Sharm airport Thursday evening, last week of February. 6 flights in at same time. Confusing, long winding queues - system is join queue for visa first, then join long queue for passport control. Our luggage was on last carousel (no.6) at far end. Friendly Egyptian staff with Sensatori boards, outside airport exit, guided us to bus.

Have small tip ready, for overworked guy putting baggage on bus, and change ready if you wish to tip hotel bell boy, who drives you in buggy to room, with baggage piled on the seats, Our buggy driver was very friendly and keen to show off the hotels features. Previously, at hotel reception check-in, provided with a cold drink and cold face towe, with 5 staff, on desk, to make it a quick and pain free process.

Welcome meeting, following morning, lasted 45mins, followed by Sami's walking tour that lasted over an hour, but well worth doing. We then had lunch in beach front Tiran Diner, which has great location and promised much. Waited a while for table to become available, but no problem as waitered drinks on hand from the bar. Food basically burger and chips, but meatballs worth trying, as well as small selection of desserts. Much better in evenings.

We had room in 3000's, which was cleaned in afternoons. Chose swim up pool, with very limited sea-view (best for sea-views are rooms in 1000s block, so try E-mailing a request before departure). Our room spacious with bed bigger than KingSize (Queen size?). Shower over bath not very powerful. Wi-Fi in room if you pay, but free in reception/ piano lounge area. In room; fridge, but no mini-bar which was surprising, and took time to figure out how to use air con.
Food in Fountain View (main restaurant) good with plenty of choice, and waitering staff quick and attentive. A little Arabic is much appreciated! Need to reserve table in 5 remaining restaurants, using 4 online kiosks located near reception concierge/piano bar/shops. Be prepared to join queues 10-15mins before 10am. Stonegrill and Japanese Gokan restaurant not part of all inclusive package. Our favourite was the Middle Eastern Marhaba. Look out for the guy playing the zither live in the corner of the Marhaba. Casa Bianca restaurant worth visiting but Tiramisu a bit average.
Main pool heated, but adult pool quite cold at this time of year. Hotel mostly visited by Brits, but guests from other countries also there. Plenty of loungers so no real rush in mornings to bag with a towel/book, but maybe we were lucky?
Bank open for obtaining small change around 1030am for couple of hours, and has a hole-in-the-wall cash dispenser. Small change very limited at reception. Lastly don't miss out on free champagne every evening at 1845hrs from bar near reception.
