It was really nice staying in a nice, quiet country home. Ecuador countryside is so green and full of flowers. Yet, it was a pleasant walk to town. (By the way, I recommend taking the "shortcut" thru the pasture, not the dirt road.)

The rooms are all fine. The breakfast is individually prepared, not a buffet.

I felt like this was a home. I actually was sad to leave the gracious hosts after only two nights.

Oro Azul is a special place.... nice!

I stayed three nights here and was absolutely charmed. The inn itself is lovely. I stayed in the twin room, which has a couch to relax on as well. The other rooms looked quite nice, you can't really go wrong as there are only 4 rooms (I think). The grounds are gorgeous, with views of the mountains in all directions. It's a short walk into town, or an even shorter cab ride for only $1.25. Marcelo is a wonderful host.

Set a little outside the main town, Oro Azul has great views over the countryside. The hosteria itself is well appointed with great attention to detail. It's an easy and pretty walk into town, but a little tricky to find your back, but taxis were cheap and plentiful. The service was good and there was always someone around when we wanted them, but it was never intrusive.

Had an amazing time at oro azul. The hosteria is beautiful, with lovely gardens, and fantastic views. Inside is stunningly decorated, tidy, and comfortable. Mercello the owner is nice and very accommodating. He can offer good advice on what to do in cotacachi and Otavalo. 10/10 recommend!

Marcelo is a gracious host, with vast knowledge of Cotocatchi and the surrounding area. The hotel is a refurbished country home, small, and charming. Breakfast was tasty, especially the hearty brown bread baked fresh and delivered twice a week. Our room was the twin, which has a great view. The water pressure in the shower is not great, but gets the job done. The grounds are lovely, and there is a supremely charming lab puppy, Gino, who will win over even the toughest of souls. You can walk to town (we did so through the fields) but it's good to have a car to get to the sites, to Cuicocha lake or the Intag cloud forest area. Lovely spot, and well run inn. Warning: Payment in cash or bank deposit only.

Room Tip: The detached family suite is a king/queen bed with a futon sofa and a very large bathroom.
