Incanto is an inviting cafe near Plaza San Francisco where you can have flavorful cappuccinos, pastries, and artisanal gelatos. Creative flavors in all the foods that the owner, Santiago, personally prepares - homemade bread for deli-style sandwiches, tasty fresh salads - all made fresh daily.

It wasn’t that long ago that Cotacachi only had one coffee shop and a very limited variety of restaurants. Things have been changing pretty quickly as of lately on that front.

Incanto is one of the newest additions to the local landscape and seems to be raising the bar. The restaurant decor is modern and clean, looking more like something you might see in Quito or in the US, rather than the mom and pop style shops we are more accustomed to here. The owner Santiago speaks English well so you’ll feel comfortable ordering if your Spanish isn’t strong.

Santiago seems to have some serious chef skills. He is offering homemade gelatos, sandwiches with bread baked in-house, pastries, salads etc. My favorite so far is his steak sandwich. He cuts the meat into small chunks, adds cheese, tomato, mayo, a homemade sauce on fresh baked bread. It is excellent and something very out of the ordinary for Cotacachi.

He offers fruit juices and coffees as well. No sodas. My only complaint so far is that the juices have been too sweet for my taste (and I like sweet), so a reminder for them to ease up on the sugar when ordering might be advisable.

There are now a number of great little places in Cotacachi to grab a cup of coffee, a sandwich and dessert. Incanto is a welcome addition and hopefully will be around for the long haul.

Incanto specializes in the best ice cream in all of Ecuador. The flavors change often and are exotic and delicious from basil lemon to chocolate and many more. Incanto also serves sandwiches: the chicken sandwich is the best; and they just started offering salads. I don't drink coffee but friends say it has great tasting coffee and the pastries are the best, especially the apple tart. I highly recommend this quaint little cafe in the San Francisco square near Banco Pichincha. The owner really pays attention to detail to make your experience special. A special detail is the quality of the bread used for the sandwiches. It is really something special.

The café Incanto in Cotacachi is a wonderful addition to Cotacachi. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The gelato is the best around and the pastries are outstanding. Santiago provides very good service and speaks English as well as Spanish. Breakfast for $4.25 is a great deal, with more food than I could eat. The fresh made bread is excellent.

The freshly made gelato, the cakes, quiches, sandwiches and now salads!! Everything Santiago makes is top notch and reasonably priced. His pride in his creations is obvious and well deserved. Don't miss this place!
