What a gem of a hotel. Definitely the best hotel in Datong and is worth every $ and coming to Datong to just stay here! It is located less than a minute walk off a main road in a non car street and short walking distance to a number of sites in old Datong. Tucked away off the main tourist street but still only a walk minute away. It is definitely a boutique hotel architecturally designed and decorated. to look like one of the old homes or inns from ancient China but with all the modern amenities like hot cold running water, AC, heat, electronic room keys. The only thing it lacks is an in room safe. It is a quiet oasis. Beautiful courtyard where you can quietly sit and relax with bonsai plants and flowers all over. Everywhere you look is a feast for the eyes with old relics, Chinese and western art and furniture. Very tastefully decorated - someone definitely know what they were doing. The bedding and mattress was definitely imported and internationally 5 star hotel standard! Very comfortable mattress with the right amount of firmness and the bedding is clean soft and comfortable and no musty smell. I like the fact that the hotel is quite exclusive in that the doors are always closed and only allow hotel guests to come in. The rooms had absolutely no smoke smells. The staff and hospitality was amazing. Warm and dignified. A special thanks to Marcos at the front who was always looking out for our needs. English is spoken by most of the staff - and If not always a smile and a greeting. The owner actually spent some time in PEI Canada for his schooling. The breakfast was pretty incredible and delicious with real coffee and a choice of Chinese or western breakfast. The supper there is also very good and better and definitely cleaner than most restaurants outside. You have to let them know that you are coming back for supper and suggest what you would like to eat. They will try to accommodate you. What started out as a 3 nights stay ended up to be 5. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Datong to stay here. It is probably one of the most expensive hotels in the area but international standards and 5 star service = international pricing. So if you are looking for somewhere cheap to stay and cheap food with local prices - this might not be the place for you. If you are looking for an authentic experience and enjoyed staying in a classy boutique hotel - Yunzhong is the place for you. The main tourist street is still under construction so a lot of the shops are not open yet but everything looks like it will be up and finished soon. Love the nights here - feels like you are an honored guest at someone’s home.

Excellent service, comfortable rooms with regional decor, all in a charming central location. Walking distance to the City Wall and major temple sites. You will not find nicer tourist accommodations in the region. Highly recommend.

I was born and raised in a 200 old house in Macau, that was almost more than half a century ago. Staying for 2 nights at this traditional Chinese building brought back some memory. The hotel is a boutique hotel with beautiful courtyard and decorated with historical charm of Chinese culture. Yet the amenities are up to date. Breskfast was a combination of east and the west. Well worth to stay just to have the experience.

In the middle of Datong ancient city wall, the hotel brings you to the old imperial China with all modern facilities ever. Superior room was massive with living room and separate studio. Amazing bathroom with everything you may need. Décor incredible and a little museum inside where you can even buy the finest antiques. Breakfast very nice and served close to a beautiful cigar bar. Highly recommended.

Room tip: Superior to enjoy more space and decor

Lovely small boutique hotel modelled on an old style Hutong. Peaceful and quiet, large rooms opening out onto a very beautiful courtyard, full of flowers and areas to sit and sip tea. Highly recommend a stay here if visiting Datong. The staff are friendly and attentive. Breakfast was simple but delicious.

Room tip: Our room on ground level had immediate access to the courtyard. Best rooms faced the courtyard.
