Loved the feel of this place- you walk in to the smell of incense and see massive Buddha statues, a room filled with hundreds of golden Buddhas, a bell that you can ring (for an extra 5 yuan) and beautiful wooden architecture. In the other part of the park, you can go visit the temple's even bigger bell, which is several stories tall and the biggest bell I have ever seen.

The only con is the ticket process is quite confusing. The ticket is valid for both the main temple and the bell area, but you need to exit one to get to the other. They are several hundred meters apart and you need to show the ticket at both entrances. Check the map for how to get to each one. But don't skip either.

Nice temple, but mostly rebuilt. Restaurant not particularly good, with officious staff and passable food.

Hanshan (cold mountain) Temple is forever remembered by generations of Chinese since the Song Dynasty as the inspiration of a beautiful traveler's poem. The temple was under repair and veiled behind scaffolding like the Washington DC dome when we visited. It was still a nice peaceful stroll on the grounds. This temple is located right next to the Grand Canal attraction, a magnificent Chinese invention that facilitated transportation of cargo between north and south China. Our Chinese friend spent a day taking us here from Shanghai to tour Suzhou highlights including the Jinji (golden chicken) lake new resort development and the water town, all within a few miles from city center. What we saw convinced us that Suzhou is a really beautiful city.

It's a Suzhou icon as there is a famous poem from Tang dynasty described it. The bell tower has a huge bell, and the sound is loud and but brings peace. Everyone can try to hit the huge bell for CNY 10.

The main temple and Guangyin temple have beautiful statues for worship.
