Having lived in China for 20 years I have seen many of the old things disappear. This movie set is from the 30s and 40s in China and much looks like Shanghai did when I first arrived. Great place to take photos.
We stayed in haikou just for 5 hours and this is the only place we went, which is recommended by locals. it is a place where u can find almost all hainan traditional food.
they tatest ok , the building itself just soso
The buildings are historic and there are lots of little shops and restaurants. we enjoyed lamb Kabob ,shrimps& Oysters in a food court with many stalls. BYO if you want wine but be discrete. Put it in a plastic bottle and take cups from hotel. had a great lunch for less than 100RMB.
Should visit. Foods sold here are oily, which is their style of cooking.
Bargaining is permitted when shopping. When taking a taxi, be sure the meter is turned on.
A nice street to walk along and absorb some of Haikou's past. It's nice that it is pedestrianized so you don't often have to worry about cars while you are busy staring upwards! A lot of it was being renovated at the time we went. A good photo opportunity and some possible tourist souvenirs but after a walk down it once you'll be done.
It's a nice place to take a walk and shop for snacks and souvenirs to take home, maybe to take a few pictures... but that's it. After a few hundred meters you'll start to realize everything looks the same. There are some really nice restaurants and teahouses in the area though, but the prices are higher then elsewhere in Haikou.
I'd recommend going there for a night, but don't expect too much. Then you'll be fine. If you don't speak mandarin make sure you have a phrase book or install Pleco on your phone because the locals don't speak English. Just a tip.
