Hotel Somadevi Angkor Resort & Spa

at $65.00 + VAT, (booking.com) which includes WiFi & Buffet Breakfast, this has to be the best value 3 star (int'l rating) hotel in Siem Reap. Equal to a new build Sheraton for comparison. Pros: it is located on a main shopping road in town, but long driveway sets the property back behind retail fronts and makes it an intimate and quiet setting. 3 minute Tuk-Tuk ride to Pub street and open local markets. Room size is generous with contemporary appointments that would make you think you are walking into a Westin at first glance. Complementary water (2) bottles in the room upon arrival and daily, I think? Nice comforter and AC control system. Separate large rain shower and huge soaking tub. Swim up pool bar is a nice feature for those hot afternoon breaks in your tour/activities outings before dinner. Staff is very friendly and always responsive once they understand your request. Lobby is grand with wonderful wood floors, lobby bar, local cultural appointments.Umbrellas available for use located in lobby and can be signed out of hotel. Cons: negative edge spa that spills into the pool was not heated. Towels are not high quality and appear to be over-washed with a stiff and rough nap to the feel. Wine by the glass selection is very limited and could use expansion. Staff not completely trained on certain cocktail receipes, but will accommodate if you walk them through it. No irons in the room but can be ordered from Housekeeping. All staff speaks some English, some more than others. Many are not very confident (cultural thing from my experience in traveling) but will engage if pushed further into conversation. stay away from your own slang to have better results in your requests. Water pressure from hot water boiler risers will have vacillation from time to time, but no shortage of hot water. Should offer a "day room" rate for all the late air departures. full room rate for such is a little painful. Could keep umbrellas in back tower lobby for guest use when crossing from pool to main lobby.

Room Tip: Lobby tower or back tower both have pool views with balconies. I don't think there is a bad room...

This hotel is in a great spot - close to shops & markets etc. but not right on the main road. We had a 4th floor room that overlooked the pool, and were very comfortable. It was nice not to have a shower over a bath! Staff were friendly and helpful, food was excellent and a tuk tuk was never far away if needed. Be aware though that the halls and lifts are not air conditioned and are very hot! Nonetheless we would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Perhaps avoid the 5th floor - the lift only goes to the 4th floor, and the views are far less attrac...

This is a very nice hotel. The foyer is a delight and the tasteful wood carved decor throughout is quite beautiful. We had a large room but, unfortunately we were on the 5th Floor and the lifts only go to the 4th Floor. It was also said to be "pool view" but, although it had a balcony, it was set back and you could only see a tiny portion of the pool area (single digit percentage), if you were over 6ft tall and stretched out. I caught a glimpse but my wife couldn't see anything. If you look at the hotel photo on this site, you may just see a sliver of the 5th Floor. Food was good and plentiful. Had we been in another room I could possibly have given a higher rating. Location is excellent - just a few metres from the main street with direct access. In the dining room it is best to avoid the corner with the television as mosquitos seem to congregate there.

Room Tip: Avoid the 5th Floor.

In February, I had my third stay at the Somadevi in 3 years. The best location as is situated in the main street of Siem Reap & is within walking distance to all markets, Pub Street & the local supermarket in the Lucky Mall. The hotel is a lovely place staffed by wonderfully friendly people who ensure patrons are well looked after. It is clean, well serviced & modern. It boasts a great swimming pool with a pool bar. After a day of sight seeing it is the perfect place to come 'home' to & be greeted almost as if family by the door staff. When staying at the Somadevi, make use of the Tuk-Tuk drivers who will not only take you where you want to go, but will advise of places you may not have thought of. Will be travelling again in 2013 & of course staying at the Somadedevi

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool, great view

Stayed for 3 nights in Feb 2012.

Airport-hotel transfer is ready for us at the arrival hall, no frets no hassle. good transport vehicle, got us to the hotel within 10 min, and a very warm welcome greeted us.

We were checked in at 9am in the morning! no delays, transaction went smoothly, and the room is large, clean and tidy, nice view of the pool area and the stage (nightly apsari dance performances during dinner buffets). Bathroom is large, has a large bath and a large shower (shower head has good water pressure!). Comes with a mini bar, a safe, and flat screen TV with cable tv.

tuktuks are readily available within the hotel compound, ask the lobby staff for assistance. sunrise trip is about usd 9 (sets of at 5am, back by 8am). sunrise plus short circuit trip is usd20 (sets of at 5am, back after noon). grand circuit trip is usd15 (whole day).

pass for the park is usd40 per person. photos are taken at the ticket counter, no longer need to bring passport photos. tuktuks wil wait for you wherever you go.

the hotel is within 5 min walk of the town, from pub street, night markets. hotel is within 2 min walk from KFC. has many grocery stores nearby. very convenient in view that most of the large tour groups stay at hotels along the road towards the airport, quite a distance from town. this hotel is relatively smaller, more intimate, for smaller groups of travellers.

breakfast buffet has a wide range of options. standard american breakfast, with eggs done at order, cambodian breakfast of fried rice/soup noodles/porridge. Tasty!

The pool is heavenly after a days trip of sight seeing. By the end of the day you will be very sweaty and dusty from the tuktuk travels, and the pool is a great way to cool down with a pool bar readily available with smoothies.

Basically an excellent hotel. stayed at the superior room for 3 nights for usd200.

Room Tip: if you are willing to spend, choose the rooms that face the pool with a good view of the stage at ni...
