Despite some stiff competition during our travels, Sala Lodges is possibly the best place we have ever stayed. It is a truly unique experience, because of the setting, the design and the incredible individual lodges themselves. It's a very personal service - the staff are exceptional and there is a clear investment in training and attention to detail. Giving guests each a refillable metal water bottle that you can bring away with you is a master stroke - both environmentally and it also means that I now still think of Sala Lodges and smile about the wonderful experience every time I use it.

we've been guests in august 2018 (2 adults, 2 children).

from arrival until departure: all perfect.

we felt welcomed from the very first moment when we arrived.

the staff: always superfriendly, giving their very best to have happy guests.
the lodges: simply perfect. a lot of space, very nicely decorated, all needed facilities.
the pool: salty, warm, plenty of space, very relaxing.
the restaurant: great tasty and fresh food.

sala lodges is simply perfect! it was the highlight of our 3 weeks vietnam-cambodia trip.

i can highly recommend the hotel.

I had already debated the pros and cons of the bigger luxury hotels in Siem Reap before being recommended Sala by a contact. It was a great lesson for me in looking beyond the obvious. You can stay pretty much anywhere in Siem Reap for Sala's prices (probably only the Aman excluded). However, I am thrilled that we did eventually choose it. Why?

- it's beautiful, and distinctly local
- the rooms are huge. Yes, you can have a room at the Park Hyatt etc. but sitting on your terrace, surveying the vegetation is unlike what you can have in a larger hotel
- the food is great. Everything was excellent quality, with an extensive Cambodian menu plus a Western additional 'room service' menu. Ate 3x in 2 days at the hotel (which we never normally do).
- the in room spa treatments were sensational. Just excellent quality, and very reasonably priced for a hotel
- the staff aren't super polished but they do plan good details. We went biking, and the team were waiting at the entrance with chilled towels and iced tea when we returned.
- the pool is beautiful and lap-suitable (20m)
- whilst you're not in the centre of town, the centre isn't so attractive anyway. Plus you are always 5 mins away in a $3 tuk tuk.

We did a cycling tour organised through them which was an excellent insight into rural life. We had done something similar in Vietnam and during the first hour of this tour, I thought it could be a dud. However, the chance to really 'look behind the scenes' of daily life outside Siem Reap was special.

It doesn't surprise me that the owner is Swiss. There is a distinct Swiss-ness to some of the architectural and service touches. It's a good combination with Cambodia.

I hesitate to give hotels 5 stars as there is usually room for improvement but 4 didn’t seem enough 4.5 is probably the mark I’d ideally choose! This place is beautiful and the little oasis that has been created is stunning. We had house 9 and stayed 4 nights at the end of July. We loved it - the room was gorgeous, the bed comfy and it was beautifully fitted out in an in-keeping rustic fashion. It’s probably one of the smaller ones and around the back. Linen was fresh and white. We did need the mosquito net at night for peace of mind but during the day the net is tied high out of the way so the room has a daytime feel. Certainly didn’t miss having a tv for one moment that’s a nice touch as it is a very romantic setting and calm and tranquil. Love having fresh flowers in the room and again these were kept fresh and renewed. The pool area was nicely maintained and the pool was warm and inviting. We ate in on two evenings and the food was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was more than adequate. I always book hotels direct and noticed a big price change closer to the time of the holiday and so in fact had to cancel and re-book but at least this was possible and I do understand market forces do change pricing. The only thing we did find slightly tedious was that the staff cleaned the room while we were at breakfast meaning that we had to hang around for them to finish - having said that they did a great job. All staff were friendly and attentive and I’d defiantly recommend Sala to anyone travelling to the area.

Arriving at Sala Lodge is simply breathtaking. It is an oasis of architecture, design and kindness in Siam Reap. You will like the courtesy of the staff, the details of the design and the atmosphere.

Also the food is outstanding and authentic.
