We had high expectations prior to visiting and were not disappointed.
It is difficult to appreciate the sheer size of it. The fact that it was built in the middle of a jungle in the late 12th century is incredible, to me it is on a par with the pyramids in that respect.
The carvings are fantastic and it is truly an architectural masterpiece. Make sure you have plenty of time when visiting and just lose yourself

Take everything you have read about this place and then still be prepared to be blown away! It is truly vast and the carvings in particular are absolutely incredible.
make sure you have a good guide who knows when to go and can tell all of the stories behind the carvings as well as the history. Ours was amazing and managed to get us to each temple at the quietest times when we were virtually the only people there.
We were not sure about the sunrise trip but having experienced standing in silence with hundreds of people waiting for the sun to come up over the towers was a very spiritual experience for a middle aged cynic!

It was my dream to be there. One of the most amazing place I’ve seen in my life - the intricate carvings, the size of the towers and the surrounding moat, the peacefulness of the place.

Angkor Wat is a temple complex in Cambodia & is the largest religious monument in the world. It was originally built as a Hindu temple, but has since transformed into a Buddhist one. It is classic Khmer architecture of incredibly detail & has carvings depicting historical events and stories from mythology.

Angkor Wat is a symbol for Cambodia & appears on its national flag. It is the prime attraction for tourists visiting Cambodia. It should be noted that you have to purchase your entrance ticket at an off site location.
