This hotel is built in Khmer -style largely using dark woods and is attactive to look at. Rooms are well equiped and there is a marvellous swimming pool in the center of the hotel surrounded by foliage. The restaurants are good and the staff very attentive. The hotel is centrally placed in Siem Reap and an easy walk to the markets shops and in expensive local restaurants. It is also close to the Ankgor temples.

Have just returned from a 3 night stay in this delightful hotel, a haven from the heat and humidity outside! Certainly an excellent base for exploring the wonders of Angkor Wat etc. Good rooms, super pool, attentive staff.

A wonderful hotel - just what Orient Express does well. Loved all the wooden balconies, staircases, furniture, etc. 2 good restaurants with wide menu choice, and fair price for this standard of hotel - around $36 for 3 courses.
Very good service from all the delightful and well trained staff, and the tours and guide organised by the hotel were very good and personalised.
Just a pity that the manager Karin van Zyl has either forgotten or never learnt the first art of hospitality - to be around and talk to guests. In spite of a rather girly handwritten welcome note (presumably written in bulk for the week's arrivals) and a printed info sheet saying she looked forward to meeting us, in 3 days we never saw her.
We asked at reception and were told she would come if we needed but goes home at 6 pm, and another manager said that she only comes to the restaurant if she has guests, and by 8 pm she would be in the gym.
Hope her boss reads this - not the kind of hotelkeeeping for a top class 50 bedroom hotel.
It's good that her department managers (Cambodian apart from French head chef) are all excellent.

Room Tip: Don't go for River Room except for children as these face the outside of the property and the ro...

We have been going to Cambodia since 1992 and have stayed at La Residence d'Angkor for the past 10 years. We have never been disappointed---ever---in either the hotel or the service. It also has the best swimming pool in Asia. After a long hot day, there is nothing better than a dip in this beautiful pool. Located in the center of town, you can walk to the central market and many restaurants. Or stay at the hotel and have a good meal. Their spa is just gorgeous, with everything available---massage, facial, manicure---everything.You'll miss a great treat if you don't go!! Beautiful, beautiful hotel in every sense of the word.

We stayed at La Résidence for three nights in February 2012. Our room, the premises in general and the bar were very nice and well maintained. However, we also had some negative experiences. We had pre-booked an English-speaking guide (and a driver) for three consecutive days through the hotel. It turned out that our guide's English was so poor that we simply could not understand him, and he was unable to understand our questions or discuss with us what we would like to see. Therefore, we requested a different guide after the first day. The hotel arranged for a new guide (who was fluent in English and knowledgeable, but not exceptional), but initially charged us the full price for the tour on the first day (after we complained, we were offered a 50% rebate). In view of the comparatively high prices for the tours offered, we expected exceptional quality, which we did not get. This also applied to the remaining services offered by the hotel: If I stay at a five star hotel, I expect my white laundry to remain white, and not be returned pink. I expect the staff to address me by name and understand my requests (after three days, the breakfast staff still did not understand that I asked for a large glass, which I did every morning). Besides, I am just unwilling to pay USD 22 for a Hamburger on the lunch / pool menu in a developing country. If a hotel operates in such price range, it's got to be exceptional - like, by the way, the Raffles (we dined at the Raffles - Le Grand Restaurant - every night, and the restaurant staff welcomed us by name already on the second evening, even though we had not made reservations). In general, the staff at the Raffles was noticeably older and better trained than at La Résidence.
