We stayed one night at the hotel before moving to the resort. Very friendly welcome upon arrival. The villa at the resort consisted of two floors. Upstairs two sun beds and bath & shower. The room was spacious, comfortable bed and good bath room. Quiet as well and directly on the pool.

Restaurant service was friendly but a bit slow. We had lunch there one day which was ok but could be improved.

Breakfast is from 6-12 which is nice. Breakfast is simple but good.

The location is great in a quiet alley and easy reach to the old centre with all it's bars and restaurants.

Overall we had a very relaxed stay in GB, there is some room for further improvement here and there but these things are minor.

Can definitely recommend staying here.

We arrived after a gruelling 13 hour journey from the beach resort of Sihanoukville where we'd stayed in a charming but 'basic' beach bungalow and I don't think I've ever been so happy as to open the door of our room and discover cool air, a crisply made up bed, soothing decor, a fabulous large head shower with lovely bath products, a nice sized balcony overlooking the pool with a stone bathtub on it! It was a haven of tranquility, bliss! The next morning we explored this small but perfectly formed 'resort' - there is a tasteful open plan eating area around the pool where breakfast was delicious and individually prepared to what we required - fresh juice and fruit, eggs prepared fried, poached, boiled etc. The pool was lovely, very clean and not busy at all when we were there - there are also nice seating areas around where you can get out of the sun and read in the shade. The staff were eager to help but not 'in your face' and as others have said it is gay friendly but we didn't feel unusual not being gay as there are a mix of families, gay couples and heterosexual couples here. We used the hotels assistance to book the all important trip to Angkor Watt and they arranged a brilliant tuk tuk driver who was very knowledgeable and then again to book a boat to Battambang when we left. There is a very short walk into the main streets of Siem Reap and all the bars and restaurants, yes the hotel is down a dark street but I never felt threatened or nervous so would not let this put you off at all! It's over a year since we visited Cambodia and we are planning our next trip away, I wouldn't rule out revisiting the Golden Banana as we had a wonderful stay here.

Golden banana has a B&B,hotel and a resort like section, i was at the resort in a clean comfortable room facing the swimming pool, it is quite, very relaxing, the staffs are all amazing, smiling, always ready to help, even when you wait at the reception they sit with you and chat, breakfast are minimal but good, the check out is rapid and they even check your room to see if you forget something before you leave wow! I will go there again for sure! Dont get scare by the location it is in a back of an alley but it is better like this, more quite from the street!

Room Tip: I had a deluxe suite which was very nice, higly recommended! As for the other rooms i do not know

We were traveling with 3 other couples and had asked for ground floor rooms for the two senior couples in our group but my husband and I were not so lucky. The stairs to our room were very steep and in the dark a bit intimidating. I did get used to them by our last of sixth nights. The great thing was that the hotel staff carried our bags to our room and down again without our asking. My 19 year old son didn't find the stairs a challenge but he had youth on his side. The room itself was very nice, on the larger side for hotel rooms. There is a safe which is nice to have when leaving valuables in your room. The shower is large and has a very nice rain shower facet. Their is a nice size balcony with a lovely stone bathtub and shower on it. This was a real treat and made me forget all about the stairs.
The hotel is a short walk to the night market and there are always tuk tuks outside the hotel waiting to take you here you want to go. The pool was well cared for and clean, breakfast choices were good and tasty. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and I would stay here again...maybe on the ground floor next time!

This was one of our favorite hotels we stayed at in our 4 week SE Asia adventure last December/January. There are several adjoining sections of the Banana complex, each with its separate charm and price. Regarding where my wife and I stayed, the Golden Banana Resort, a few things perhaps not covered by others:

Great shower head, hot and cold water, and more than adequate pressure. After being on the road for 20 days in Thailand and Laos, where even having hot water was a treat, this was a great pleasure to have indeed. Loved the soap and shampoo jars.

Nice pool area with a little cozy cafe/bar next to it. Good breakfasts, lunch, and cocktails served. Within the Banana complex, this seemed to be the most spacious of the pool areas.

Lot's of friendly staff to help. Desk staff get it done right—the first time. If I was not sure of something, I felt no embarrassment to ask another staff member for clarification. Also, when my wife was ill (tummy), they went out of their way to check up on her while I was out.

We had the 3 night package, which we felt was worth it. We did the one dinner-for-two at the (Something) Palm restaurant, which was nice. The included lunch at the resort, although shared by the 2 of us, included enough good food. The 2 day tuk tuk driver to Angkor Wat was useful and safe. [Staff recommended a great guide named Mao, who was very knowledgeable about the history as well as Khmer culture (his price was $25/day extra). Quite an amazing guy.] The dinner and Apsara dance was good as well. Just make sure you don't do anything too tiring that day, as the dance can be—well, how should I say—hypnotic (snore).

Great wifi reception in the room.

For those who have an issue with “gayness:” The gayness of the place is, how should I say, relaxing. My wife and I feel that "gay friendly" is never an issue anyway. In any case, as others have mentioned, there seemed to be more straight couples than gay.

Lastly, do be aware of missing the little side street when you return at night.
