Our office loves this place! We've been going there since it first opened. They smoke their own meats in the smoker at the front of the parking lot. You can smell the smoke as soon as you walk into the restaurant, decorated with log tables and plastic checkerboard tablecloths.

You place your order at the counter and it's prepared while you wait. You get a choice of sides (I'd recommend the collard greens and corn bread!). Any of the meats are wonderful! I'm particular to the brisket and the smoked sausage. Very ample portions so you won't go home hungry!

The sauces are all on the table and there's about 5 or 6 to choose from ranging from a sweet, smoky flavor to a nice, hot one to a Carolina inspired mustard and vinegar flavor.

I've been meaning to try this place for 3 years since my daughter started at UM. I ordered the dry spare ribs and they were VERY good. Very tender but had a great bark on the outside. The sauces were a bit weak as another reviewer noted but that didn't stop me from enjoying them. I'll be back on my next visit to AA to try all the other menu items!

For over twenty pounds of cooked meat that had been resting for half an hour before consumption, the food was quite delicious. The beans and rice were especially good, which helped in accommodating for the vegans in my group. On top of that, service assisted in carrying food into the car, a much appreciated gesture. I cannot speak for Satchel's as a dining experience, but if you have a party to throw and enough money to move beyond pizza, this is an excellent next step.

Lunch was pull chicken with creamy Mac and cheese with corn bread. It was hot, fresh, quick and inexpensive. Large selection of pulled pork, brisket, kielbasa, and chicken. Casual dining with the smoker right out front. Right next to Whole Foods on Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor.
