“Absolutely Fantastic”
Reviewed 25 March 2012

I'll admit, I kind of rolled my eyes when I was looking for things to do in Dubai and stumbled across this on Trip Advisor. I thought, "If this is the best Dubai can do, I'm in trouble." So I booked a heritage tour for my first morning in Dubai, figuring that it would at least be an easy transition into my vacation.

The heritage tour was wonderful. Our group and two guides spent about an hour and a half wandering around the Bastakiya district looking at replica houses, touring a mosque, and hearing about the history of Dubai. As a Westerner with little to no experience in Islamic history or Middle Eastern cultures, it was an eye-opening experience. The guides were candid about their way of life and did not bat an eye when touchy questions were raised. They handled our curiosities with grace and humor, while giving an insight into Emirati life, something you'll likely miss if you just come for the modern attractions.

Following the tour, our guides sat down with our group for coffee and dates and another Q&A session. Again, their answers were relevant and easily accessible to all audiences. The information and insight they provided helped to broaden our minds at the beginning of our vacation, which I believe enhanced our Dubai experience.

If you do one thing in Dubai, take a tour with the SMCCU.

“Valuable information and a worth-while tour”
Reviewed 24 March 2012

I took the Bastakiya 60-minute walking tour. Our guide was an Emirati citizen and told us all about the history of the area and educated us about his culture. It was fascinating, and I definitely recommend this to anyone who goes to Dubai.
