Owner description: In the historic district, the Abra Dock in Bur Dubai, is an affordable 10-minute traditonal wooden boat ride -- really a taxi. Take the abra from the Bastakiya side, look around the textile souk and the art galleries, and end in the gold souk. Used by 15-20 million passengers each year, the Abra Dock in Bur Dubai is a memorable cruise in the water.

Probably not changed much in 60 years, except the dhows are now full of mobile phones and fridges, not spices and herbs.

Its a very calm and lovely experience to travel on traditional wooden boats aka Abra .
If you are tourists its recommended to try Abra and it's very cheap and cost only 1 AED which you can pay directly to the ferry driver. There is old souq near to Abra you can enjoy shopping. Its soo nice to cross from Bur Dubai to Deira, which takes us to the street markets for shopping.
Also it is so nice to see that Government is still preserving the traditional modes of transportation.

So romantic to cross the creek by night with abra, sort of "Arabic gondola", if I may. It costs only 2 local dirhams (three years ago it was only one!), and it gives you an idea about the old Dubai. Maybe not very comfortable, but it only take 20 minutes, so not a big problem.

We took this tiny Little boat to set over the creek and it felt great. We had tour guide with us, so we do not know, how much reasonable Price Levels are. But, if comming back, I would ask a longer trip to see the old town from the creek.

A short ride across "the creek" by Abra is certainly worth the 1 Dirham cost just for the experience. We took an abra from Deira. If you have been visiting the Textile Souk and need to get back without taking the metro all the way, this is the fun transport. You can, of course, go the other way. That's a definite possibility if you have been visiting the Gold Souk. A short ride, but the cost is only about 50 cents. How can you go wrong?
