Great pool, helpful staff, too far from town centre

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 Jan 2013
Pleasant hotel with a well maintained good-sized pool. Rooms, especially the bathrooms, are a tad jaded and could do with a makeover. Plumbing does not work as it should. Power cuts are frequent so have a torch close by....I got caught in the shower in the dark with shampoo in my hair! Staff are cheerful and helpful especially the receptionists. Wifi and internet access was difficult. The restaurant served generous portions of decent food at reasonable prices. Buffet breakfast was good with eggs to order. Food was charged in Kyat, drink in US$. This led to a lot of confusion with currency calculations when the time came to pay. The waiters seemed confused too as some in our party were overcharged or shortchanged. Accounts were rectified with a smile when errors were brought to their notice! Mozzies are a problem after dark.
Avoid rooms alongside the road...traffic can be noisy.

Nice hotel with clean and comfortable room in a chalet. Got a room at the back with well maintained garden so it was really quiet. Restaurant serves reasonable and sizeable portion good food and even with extra 20 % for tax and service charges is still reasonably priced. Breakfast not too bad with plenty of fresh fruits, both in varieties and quantities. But the place is really poorly located.

Room tip: The chalets at the back of the garden are really quiet.

. The Hotel has individual chalets which are comfortable and adequate. The breakfast was good some western food as well as Asian. The hotel has a pool and its staff are most helpful. One drawback is that it is fairly remote from the centre of Mandalay. A taxi ride is essential as all the restaurants/Beer Bars are quite a distance away and are well spread out. We made an arrangement with the same taxi driver to be picked up every evening.
The taxi ride for 6 of us cost around £10 UK sterling per return. The taxi driver would wait for us to finish our meal and either go on to elsewhere or back to our hotel.

Room tip: The superior rooms are very nice

Small hotel, very run down, in grotty part of Mandalay.
First room offered was dirty but after complain we were upgraded to nicer room in small back garden. Noisy from adjacent road but quiet at night. Aircon was needed and worked well.
Good restaurant in hotel where we ate each night rather than qrisk walking or cycling to another place.

Room tip: Check before you unpack.

The rooms look old fashioned, but the superior ones are quite pleasant and comfortable. The bathrooms, though, are functional but in need of refurbishment. The restaurant is not particularly attractive but the food portions are generous, the quality okay and the staff good. The breakfast choice is limited but the food is acceptable The room we had which backed onto the road was noisy.

The hotel is not too far from the centre, but it is necessary to use a taxi, because the streets near the hotel do not have footpaths, but taxis are not readily available

Rooms are bungalow-style, a nice seating area in front of it. Indeed a bit run down, especially the bathroom. Staff is friendly and helpful, especially the breakfast personnel. Walking distance to the east side of the moat of the palace but the streets are unlit and when your first walk is at night pay attention not to get lost. Near the moat there are two restaurants noteworthy, Ko's Kitchen, Thai - for us a little disappoinment and the Golden Duck, a busy Chines reataurant where we had two extremely delicious meals.
