This must be the most unique hotel I have ever stayed at. Stayed there for a short business trip. Rooms are well appointed, very regal and absolutely massive. The building is very unusual, the clue is in the name, it used to be a real citadel. Staff were very accommodating and polite and I could not find anything to complain about. The bathroom was excellent with a great shower and plenty of various toiletry items you might need. Everything was very clean and well presented. The only downside for some might be that there is no proper air conditioning so on a stuffy day you might not feel as cool as in other places. However, the walls of this building are like 2m thick so it does not get that hot inside, during my stay temperature was around 28C and I was very comfortable at night with the window closed. The restaurant is on the top floor and has great views. The breakfast buffet is excellent with plenty of things to choose from, plus there was ample supply of kefir! Obviously, there is a nice selection of hot dishes to choose from to order. Food was always excellent, the chef definitely knows how to cook a very good omelette. I would stay there again without hesitation.

Great hotel with huge, beautiful rooms! Very clean. Great massages at the spa. Breakfast was good, but the service was nonexistent. Nothing gets refilled, so get there early! We tried to order hot food, but after 30 minutes when it still hadn’t come we left. We did have one bad experience. On our last night there, we were planning to get up at 4:30am for an early flight. But then found out they were having a major event in the front of the hotel with loud noise until at least 10:30. We ended up having to change our flight to Kiev for the night before, causing a $165 cost. Plus, our Kiev hotel was booked for that night so we had to find another and then switch after one day, which was annoying. We had been in contact with Citadel via email at the time of booking and wish we had been warned of the event in advance. We would have planned accordingly, saving a lot of money and aggravation.

Room Tip: Get city view

When you arrive at a fortress hotel you feel like an empress and get the luxury of privacy. It looks as if the fortress was built around the rooms to provide plenty of space in- and outside.

I enjoyed a warm welcome having arrived at 6.30 a.m. from Kyiv. Charming guys at reception and restaurant staff were very empathetic, without those 'robotic' cliches that you normally hear at top-tier places. Just natural and sincerely helpful.

The restaurant chef has a very high national rating, and you feel it in every molecule of your dish.

Compared to other premium hotels that I visited in Lviv, Citadel looks like your personal residence in a quiet green park on top of the hill. Large parking and live music (birds!) are a big plus.

Room Tip: I think, all the rooms overlook the garden.

This is a great hotel with a most helpful staff.
I especially want to thank Irena, the Hotel Administrator, for helping me with travel plans within Ukraine and her great assistance in communicating with various archives where I was searching for records of my grandfather who lived and died in Western Ukraine.
Irena went above and beyond the call of duty in helping me. She is the very best that a guest could ever hope for.

The hotel is set on a beautiful ground away from the traffic infested Lviv city Center surrounded by lots of green so it’s an idyllic getaway. The building itself is historic and very beautifully done. Rooms are rather comfortable. It’s supposed to be quiet except if there are guests speaking on the hallway who woke me up quite early but this I guess is not the fault of the hotel when the guests don’t have the decency to be quiet in the morning in a public hallway. I understand the hotel only has 26 rooms but as a self proclaimed five star hotel I would think they should have staff who speaks better English. It’s absolutely frustrating to talk to them. No information about the city, no recommendation, nothing. I only eat fruits at breakfast but given the fact that it’s almost summer here there weren’t many choices available which is frustrating. Nobody knows what a filter coffee is. No decent spa which is a pity as the hotel labelled itself as a resort. The feeling of the hotel is stale, unwelcoming and not functional. You have to get a staff to open the spa for you and takes an hour to heat the sauna. Overall not a pleasant experience. The staff are nice and helpful but they just can’t speak English. The hotel has great potential but simply not realised which is a true pity.
