This hotel has the character of a grand old dame: elegance, style, class. The reception lobby and the common spaces are plush with marbled pillars, comfortable nooks, and high ceilings. The rooms are of moderate size, high ceilings and comfortable, but still a bit on the tight side. The bathrooms are modern and fine. The rooms are very clean. There is a safe in the room. The main problem that we had, and many of those on our tour had the same problem, was that we could not get the air conditioning to work. On the second night of our 2 night stay I figured out that the timer on the air conditioning was set to go on at 9 AM and off at 4 PM. After some juggling, I got the setting correct. When the air conditioning turned off again, I found that the time itself was not adequate. Setting the air conditioner to go on at 9 AM and off at 8 AM worked. Others in other rooms were not so fortunate and at least one changed rooms during the night. The staff is willing, but is limited in English so that non-routine requests may go unanswered. The Hotel is wonderfully located facing the park by the harbour.
Check in for our tour group of 40 was easy. Our prepaid second night, one beyond the stay of the tour group, seemed not to be registered on their books. I offered to show the payment voucher on arrival but they did not want it, and on checking our they ran after our car to say that we were not paid, but accepted our voucher at that time.
