We love the Porta in Antigua and always stay there when we visit Antigua. The grounds are gorgeous (including the pool), the facility is beautiful, clean, well maintained, and welcoming, friendly staff, with a great restaurant and cozy bar area. Sunday brunch is excellent.

Room tip: Rooms are clean, well appointed and welcoming. Always comfortable.

This place is our family favorite in Antigua! Located a few blocks from the town center, this hotel is the place to be if you truly want to relax. It has two pools, one located in by the restaurant and great for kids to play in. The other, located farther away, a little bit more exclusive and peaceful. This hotel is filled with luscious gardens, all the grounds and rooms are beautifully designed and decorated. I've stayed here so many times and can tell you that each type of room is big and complete with everything you need. The food is great, and the restaurant has just been remodeled, a mix between the rustic and modern. Porta is the perfect option if you're coming with kids. It has a renovated playground and a kid's club so you can leave your children for a few hours, while you enjoy drinks near the pool.

Truly the best part of this hotel, is the staff! Very professional and super kind, you can tell that the people that work here are treated well, and that reflects in their genuine care for each client. You will be treated like royalty. Make sure to give a big hello to Don Juan, the host at the restaurant! He is such a kind older man who loves to treat you well and chat.

I have no negative comments about this hotel!! Plus, you can bring your pups!!

Room tip: If you're staying with family and children, best recommend a room near the the pool area.

In a six day stay at Porta I was repeated impressed. First, by the warmth of the staff, not only towards me (which one expects) but in watching interactions between staff members. They seemed genuinely happy and part of a community. Second, the property is very, well maintained and they appear to be upgrading rooms, the children's playground area, and the lush plantings. The impression is one of an authentic local hotel with added high caliber art, decoration, and decor.

A unique add is that Porta employs Lula, a "Culture and History" specialist, completely fluent in English and Spanish, to provide the cultural context of the city, country, and people. She suggests what to see and leads private guided tours as well.

The food (I ate breakfast and lunch there) was varied and excellent. The one dinner there was good - on a par with the other restaurants in town. The bar was comfortable. The WiFi worked well. The pool was never crowded.

The small conference I attended was held across the street and was well taken care of.

The hotel is a couple of blocks from the main town square (Central Park), That was perfect. Less street traffic. A nice distance from the vendors, hawkers, and other tourists. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable resort hotel in a nice old Spanish style city.

Room tip: The garden rooms are lovely, but slightly noisier in the evening.

The food and service were wonderful! The atmosphere spectacular. I could not go to four because the first thing we were served was a cold roll and cold herb butter. I had a wonderful corn and ginger soup; rich and buttery and a plate of roasted vegetables. The vegetables were drizzled with a basil olive oil. Delicioso!
