Review of Old Mill

Old Mill
Ranked #12 of 59 things to do in Nantucket
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 25 September 2018 via mobile

On a tour with Gail’s tour and we had an extended stop at the Old Mill.

Excellent look back in time to how grain was milled. The architecture and craftsmanship are exquisite. The size is also very impressive.

Given the tools of the day, it is so impressive to see what was able to be built. So impressive that the residents of Nantucket respect their heritage and have preserved such sites for future generations.

A short trip up the hill from town leads to the old wind mill. Very picturesque spot to snap that awesome shot! Easy to get to on foot or bike

Absolutely love the old mill. It’s a super cool piece of we’ll preserved history that we are lucky to have here on Nantucket! Tour guides are all really nice. There is nothing quite like seeing it running as well!

Engineering marvel and great historic significance of the island. The staff at the mill was full of local historic knowledge as well as engineering knowledge on the inner workings of this impressive machine. Kids enjoyed it. Also with the Pass $6 adult, $3 for youth (6-17) and free for children. Gets you into 6 other historic sites on the island for the entire season. Last but not least this mill is operational and they grind up corn and bag it for souvenirs but is it human grade consumable, so one could make corn bread or muffins from it. Learn where "Three sheets to the wind", "been through the mill", "Mill/milling around", "mill about", "Run-of-the-mill", to name a few came about.
